North Dakota State head coach Matt Entz tells ESPN he’s leaving the school for an assistant coaching position under Lincoln Riley at USC.

Smart move on both sides. It's hard to move up from FCS to the Power 5, or even the G5. It happens, but is rare. This will get him some P5 experience and he could be in line for a head coaching job in the future.

Very surprised he would leave for a position coach position, but I'm obviously very happy about it. Good DC option once Lynn leaves also.

He may have the assistant head coach title or something like that as well.

Announced as assistant HC/linebacker coach

Assume this means Odom is gone thank god.

Will be interesting if he finishes out the playoffs. USC is in dire need of portal players.

That’s wild. NDSU has a very proud and successful program but this has to be a shot to the ego. A two time national title winning head coach leaving to be a position coach

I’d imagine making a lot of money in Los Angeles beats North Dakota pretty easily for most.

FCS coaches don’t make much money.

Given what he was making at NDSU, USC is likely paying him north of a $1M and housing stipend

Money wise it’s probably not much different (*He was making $400k at NDSt) but I imagine it’s the only way to move up into the P5 world

He will likely get a solid pay raise with this move.

Imagine a coach taking multiple steps to rehab his shitty defense. Just imagine it Brian.

He may have a desire to be a P5 HC and this could be a quicker route.

USC ain’t putting up with that Fisher Price bullshite defense that OU allowed Lincoln to put on the field. It’s way more pressure at USC than OU.

This is a good move. USC has the worst defense known to man. Get double the pay and if they just improve 50%, you will be in line for much bigger jobs

Most FCS coaches are 200-400k

Hell of a time for an announcement. NDSU has a semi-final game to prep for.

I realize money might be a factor but I'd rather be a HC in ND than an assistant in CA with that ridiculous cost of living, taxes, etc.
