I don't see why Carmichael would come be LSU's OC when he is already an NFL OC and turned down the same position with Dolphins (and he would have called plays with Miami). Wouldn't he also have to take a pay cut to come here as an OC as well?

it isn't reality but here a few things to think about:

He isn't the real OC, Payton calls all of his own plays

he is 36 and has young kids

he has been with Brees for DB's entire career as a starter

he would get to call his own plays and make a name for himself

he would probably like the easier life a college coach enjoys

What about the guy from Miami - Whipple - they were much improved on offense this year!

whipple is in a pretty nice situation in Miami. He probably gets free reign over the offense there

But again, Carmichael is kind of a gamble, does Les really wanna take that gamble with his job on the line next season?

I would hate to see kragthorpe here. As a louisville fan, I don't think I could take watching this guy shite the bed for my two favorite teams.

Those are all a pretty good list of positives, but, to be fair, some negatives are reasonably assumed.

I'm sure Peyton Manning and a host of other QB's that are students of the game could make their QB coach and/or OC very attractive applicants too.

We MUST get someone with a reasonable resume of developing a QB who doesn't have a clue.

If Crowton is canned before the bowl game, who calls the plays?

I'd actually be fine with Les calling plays

That would be one really good way for him to prove who's who on that sideline. Complete WIN or complete FAIL.

If I was him... and Crowton really was the issue... I'd act as OC until after the bowl game.

I assume we could easily double his salary.

They are private so don't have to report, but Miami is not known to pay well.

I'm told Whipple won't come cheap. I won't get into the exact figures, but his price tag is a lot more than Patrick Nix's. UM is going to have to find a way to make this hire fit the budget. The best way to do it is to allow coach Randy Shannon to serve as the defensive coordinator. This way, one salary is handling two jobs.

Kragthorpe's failure at Louisville had nothing to do with his ability to coach and everything to do with the monumental task of having to clean up Bobby Petrino's mess.

Miami is in a lot of financial trouble. Don't forget they lost a lot of dough on a ponzi scheme as well.

I doubt it would be that hard to pay Whipple premium dollars to come here. That said, I don't see why everyone slobbers all over him after one year. He's done good work for sure, but Harris still lead the NCAA in INTs, which would be a similar problem that plagued Lee last year.

He may be a good hire, I don't know, but I'm not sure at this point...
