quote:The OC is not going to make those hiring decisions. Les hired the position coaches before he hired Chavis if I remember correctly. If the OC is hired first they might have some input but Les will be the one making the decisions.
The new OC is given license to hire people to fill in the openings on his staff. So Porter/McCarthy gives the new OC at least two spots to put "his" guys in. Stud leaves and that is three spots for the OC to fill

As much as people want some of the names their bantering around. Our OC needs to be most importantly a top notch QB developer/coach. That is the bigger issue.
I wouldn't mind seeing Les call the plays in the bowl game if Crowton is let go. I wanna see HIS offense since there is so much BS about him interfering/not interfering and wanting to run it up the get every time.

Belowpar -- should we be worried that Fulmer takes Chavis as his DC?
I don't think that would be the worst thing in the world. I'm pretty fed up with the bend, don't break defense and 3rd down and Chavis.

nah chavis had a pretty big say in the hires. Though Miles was prepared to over rule him on the Ogeron issue. He wasn't down with O

offensive staff environment is different than the defensive staff environment
and you are forgetting that any OC is going to want assurances because he may be coming in with Les one year away from the hot seat. Concessions will have to be made

i've spent entirely too much time in the last 24 hours reading about random arse coaches i'd never given a 2nd thought to in the past.

That's called guaranteed money. Many staff at other schools work on year-to-year contracts.

Why not Studrawa canned too?
Whom's work looks poor sans his first season here? Former players saying he isn't that good a position coach, according to some TD posters that are friends of theirs. And isn't a big recruiter. Some of the OL haven't seemed to play 'til the whistle for much of his tenure.
The new OC could round out his own entire staff sans Yano's spot?
I was impressed by Stud at 2007 practices, and their play that year. But, these last two seasons have raised flags and questions of his coaching abilities, also he and Miles expertise at the position, and their talent evaluation skills?

I posted 11/16/09 Offensive staff changes and GC was more than 70% chance not be retained. This was before the OM debacle. BP called it "The Prophecy." CM, from what I hear, tried to hire him in 2007 before GC. FWIW!!

Yano's next stop is an NFL head coaching gig

Jason Phillips is in his seventh year at the University of Houston, continuing the upward arc of his career by adding the roles of co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator to his previous position as wide receivers coach.

Would love to see jags and Steve Logan both here in some sort of capacity. Logan is an excellent OC/QB coach and Jags has O-line coaching experiance and he is relatively young at age 46
