Mike Locksley is a favorite for the Maryland job

Why? Terps dysfunctional AD hoping some Saban stink wore off on him since his last disastrous stint as a head coach?

2009 New Mexico: 1-11
2010 New Mexico: 1-11
2011 New Mexico: 0-4
2015 Maryland (Interim): 1-5
Overall: 3-31 record.
Hiring a 3-31 coach seems like a good way to break an already fractured fan base.

Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, a former Maryland assistant, is considered one of the early favorites to land the Maryland head coach job, sources told AL.com.

Enos is a better coordinator. Won’t matter who’s in that spot for them.

He owns the east coast with recruiting and knows offense.
Sure he failed at New Mexico, but it’s fricking New Mexico. It’s not the part of the country where he even has any connections
it’s like making frank Wilson the head coach of Iowa state and being perplexed that he isn’t bringing in top recruits
Eta: though I get your point that any respectable program would be concerned about 3-31. That is true. I just don’t think he’s 3-31 level incompetent and nick Saban probably agrees with that too

Why not ride it out with Canada

He recruits that area well and they’re dumb enough to think his offense will work with a QB who isn’t pretty far from Tua.

Does this mean Canada might be available to hire as our next OC? Man, Ohio State couldn't stop him.

because even maryland knows he isnt a good coach and they want to win games.
the man comes here and runs exclusively jet sweeps and people act as though he just invented that play and is the best coach in the country.
he was just a decent coach, he was not great, but also was not bad, he will go to another lesser tier school and do ok as an OC

He actually really impressed me as a head coach. Came into a tough situation and Maryland was just three points away from 7 wins. Beat a good Texas team too.
Locksley will be terrible though.

locksley is the black/DC version of Ed O

Wow, never have thought of it like that but yeah...it sounds about right.
Posted on 11/27/18 at 8:14 pm to Joe Mantegna
the only real differences are
1. locksley is offense. O is defense
2. Locksley failed as HC at a lower level
3. locksley has been a coordinator

He definitely helped ron zook get to a rose bowl at Illinois.
And by help I mean recruiting.

Having Saban's stamp of approval goes a long way.
Who has ever done anything at New Mexico?

Rocky Long, he should have never been fired from there.

He'll get them loaded with talent for the coach after him.

Dennis Franchione, Rocky Long, and Bob Davie all managed to get to bowls. Even Davie's team now are just regular bad, not 1 win bad.

Yeah I remember in the rocky long days they weren’t that bad.
It’s New Mexico State that’s always been dreadful.

If he was 20 years younger he'd be THE hot name in coaching.

He's a great recruiter, he knows offense, and most importantly he has a good relationship with the head of Under Armor.
