The expectation is that LSU is going to promote QB coach Joe Sloan and WR coach Cortez Hankton to co-offensive coordinators with Sloan as the primary offensive play-caller, sources tell

.

With those two as interim co-OCs for LSU’s 35-31 bowl win over Wisconsin, the Tigers posted 492 yards of total offense.

They deserved promotions. Let’s hope it works out.

If true, not really a surprise. They were a big part of the offense last season and look fine in the bowl game (though it is just one game). I'm sure Kelly surveyed the market, but I think that was the most likely option from early on.

I suspect the delay was waiting to see if Hankton might get an OC job elsewhere because the plan all along was to have Sloan be the primary play caller. Now that it appears Hankton is not going to get a (playcaller) OC job he's probably ok with the arrangement LSU is proposing. Given the emphasis BK has seemed to place on hiring guys with LA ties (Davis, Raymond, Olsen, Baker), I doubt he wanted to lose Hankton.

Expected. Offense was too good to make any big changes, happy for both of those guys though. Assuming there will be the last offensive coach announced soon with the bigger pieces in place now

I’m fine with this. Keep Sloan and you keep Bryce Underwood.

Why does he reply to his own tweet with this?

The current hope for LSU seems to be to fill its offensive staff opening with a tight ends coach who ideally has experience as an offensive play-caller, sources tell

I am just fine with it after initially not liking the idea.

We need both of them here, and Sloan did a good job calling playes.

This is good. More experience with play calling in the offensive brain trust while prepping during the week for each opponent.

I’m good with this. Sloan has been elite in what he did with Jayden.

He is young and has been killing it on the trail for us.

Hankton has our wrs being elite. They both get pay bumps, Sloan can call plays and BK can manage that side of the ball.

This was a much better move than brining in Rees or some retread from the nfl that would likely fail in the dynamics that a college OC deals with.

Sloan was a good OC at Tech....he may have been in line for a big OC job without mentoring the QB that led one of the best offenses to ever exist in college football.

Kelly oversees the offense.

2024 is likely going to be a rough year, regardless, so if it doesn't work out we can go in a different direction for 2025.

If it works out, we likely have Sloan for 3-4 more years at least and get Underwood on campus and happy.

I could see the defense having another rough year, but I don't see the offense having any problems at all.
