Unreal how most Alabama fans think Saban is in "Love" with Alabama
How many Bama fans in this thread have said that? From what I've followed (and I've spent way too much time in this thread already), most arguments for him staying are about professional reasons (winning, program already established, complete control). A lot of the stuff to come out since last night has been more personal in nature (personal debts getting covered, ego, etc.)
I'm all for people coming in here and throwing out possibilities and supporting their arguments with unsubstantiated rumor (that's what makes this fun after all), but the personal attacks about Gumps being delusional, and LSU fans being desperate to see him leave have gotten a bit stale after 392 pages.

Actually it's more unreal how little perspective some LSU fans and rival fans here have of what constitutes "most Alabama fans". Alabama has roughly 2.5 to 3 million fans give or take a few thousand. The ones who regularly post on the internet or call into sports talk shows MAY approach 500. Let's go crazy and say 1,000. That does not constitute "most Alabama fans" no matter how badly some of you want to overgeneralize it.

LOL
Alabama was arguably the greatest program in cfb history, pre- Saban. (Now the debate is over) I'm sorry, six years of bad coaching and sanctions doesn't change that.

The bolded parts I agree with totally. The unbolded ones are highly debatable with some of them being downright untrue.
I think by virtue of being in Texas, in a sizable city that is quite popular, you'll get more media attention and influence. Saban could probably run Alabama, but he could probably run Texas too, and Texas is far more well connected. Movers and shakers in Texas are quite simply "bigger" than those in Alabama. As for legacy and prestige, Texas is a well rounded school with a stellar reputation in nearly every area. Alabama is viewed as a football school nationally. I think being dominant at Texas would leave a bigger footprint for all of the reasons listed above.
Fans are probably debatable, I don't know how Saban interacts with folks. Overall, Alabama has the worst of the worst in fanbases, even if that is a really small concentrated group. I doubt Saban actually has much contact with that element, but there is less of it in Texas.

Ok, Alabama is the GOAT program. I truly think that.
Let's get back on topic.

Alabama was 15 years removed from a national title. Had three poll titles in the previous 30 years to 2007. Texas, on the other hand, hasn't had but one title since 1970. If they are all they are built up to be why have they struggled so much to reach the pinnacle? Even Mack Brown only has two conference titles in 16 years.

Alabama has the most national championships. It doesn't matter how many it is. Just use the same fair criteria for everyone, and Bama will have the most. There's no way to possibly slice it where Alabama doesn't have the most.
Just thought I should clear that up.
I didn't argue otherwise.
But some schools wouldn't count as a national championship a season like Bama's 1941 season when they finished #20, behind 4 other SEC schools as a national championship.
Bama does.
Seems some things don't change.

I don't understand why it matters. If anything, Saban has the opportunity to clearly dominate Texas history, something he may never have at Alabama (even if he should).

I dunno. It seems that most UA folks were slow to condemn Updyke, and he strikes everyone else who's watching as the prototypical Finebaum-junkie. As radio goes, his Birmingham show was the most self-referential, dogmatically-masturbatory programs that I've ever heard. You had the same 6 toothless yokels calling up every show, yelling and screaming at each other and Paul is in the middle of it all, doing his best Prince Valium impression.

OMG, the Alabama fanbase is 15% you and Genro, 15% Updykes and 70% in between. The fact that there is another 35% of the fanbase closer to Updyke than you and Genro is horrifying, but true.

Meh..Texas has plenty of competition, so on argument there..Not debating Alabama's success on the field...Austin and Texas have so much more to offer, on so many more levels than Tuscaloosa. This is not debatable. I have lived in both places FWIW, and grew up in BR.

How many does Saban have in the last five years?
Posted on 12/12/13 at 5:28 pm to CapstoneGrad06
Even during the deep dark DuBose/Fran/Price/Shula years. By far, the worst 8-year stretch in our history. Bama had 3 10-win seasons and an SEC championship

Paul Finebaum is the Jerry Springer of sports radio. Do you feel that the entire city of Cincinnati (of which Springer was the mayor) is fairly represented by his tv show?

Idk why everyone is arguing this prestige thing. It's all about money.
If Saban thought that all those previous championships mattered, then he would have signed the extension by now.
