I think Fickle would be excellent for the Badgers. Best they could hope for, although I like Leonhard and think he'd be a good hire.

Concerning NIL. Chryst was rather old school about it and this happened;

"I’ll add that the straw that seemed to break the camels back for PC was he no showed a donor NIL meeting in Milwaukee with like $25M of funds available to compete in that market. Mac was livid."

UW has plenty of money. Both the AD and the boosters. Just needs the right guy leading the football team.

Freaking ridiculous. Go be a position coach in the NFL if you don’t want to do that stuff

Seems like most wisconsin fans wanted Leonard.

Makes sense but the ending to the Minny game would have me scared. They looked like a Pop Warner team at their first practice.

I never wanted PC. His shutting down the Mendota Gridiron Club was proof I was right. The guy is not, and never should have been, a head coach. His ceiling is coordinator. He doesn't want to do any of the stuff a HC has to deal with outside X's and O's.

It shouldn’t really surprise me, but the amount of badger fans saying things about the AD being incompetent and in over his head, is truly something to behold.

If this is incompetence, bring more of it on.

I saw a post on a Badger board saying that the comments from around the country are all extremely supportive/positive while those of Badger fans are split between the "home grown" advocates and those that see the obvious; Fickell is a proven HC while JL is certainly not.

The culture around the program needs changing. I don't really see a guy that has only coached under Chryst being the one to change it.

Recruiting there is no comparison between the two. Fickell and his guys have shown an ability to do what Barry did way back when; Find guys that will develop into pros. Cincy had 9 guys drafted this past year. Out of a G5 program.

He'll get better players to Madison.

Pretty fricking stupid on Luke Fickell's part. It's extremely hard to recruit skill position players to Wisconsin.

It was extremely hard only because UW has rarely if ever had coaches that were great recruiters.

Damn man, Fickell was my white whale this offseason. Congrats, that's bad news for the West

It's official.

quote:

"My family and I are thrilled to join the Wisconsin family," Fickell said. "This is a destination job at a program that I have admired from afar for years. I am in total alignment with Chris McIntosh's vision for this program. There is a tremendous foundation here that I can't wait to build upon. This world-class university, athletic department and passionately loyal fan base all have a strong commitment to success and I can't wait to be a part of it."

tAlignment!

BB comes to mind but he had issues with coaching. He brought the most talented QB to Madison in Russel Wilson. I’ll stop there because that still makes me mad thinking of “what if.”

Good move by him. He gets a huge salary increase but with lowered expectations. Wisconsin does not want to compete with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State. He can go to the Rose Bowl or a NY6 Bowl with 9 or 10 wins and not face the pressure of making the playoffs.

LOL

Congrats on signing the worst coaching contract in CFB history. Maybe potentially outdone by TAMU but that’s TBD. That’s not competing, it’s desperation
