Wasn't the Badger's defense getting gashed this year or was it lack of recruiting from PC? Then again, anyone would be better than Joe Barry.

Not as good as previous years, but not bad by any stretch. Lack of talent in the defensive backfield was evident. Front 7 was pretty dang good

Fickell will at least restore some order in the lousy Big Ten West.

Seems like most wisconsin fans wanted Leonard.

I wanted Urbs.

Fickell is a strong number 2.

I was not fully on the Leonhard train from the start as he's part of the "always look to an alum first" culture that has gotten UW where it is right now.

Wanted someone from the outside. Fickell is a home run.

Mediocre recruiting and they lost 8 starters from last year. D was still pretty decent, just not next level like it had been.

Why? To only be left at the alter when the stress gets to him?

Dude has a track record and it isn't good.

5 years of awesomeness would make it worthwhile.

Same shite as the Badger fans that instantly respond with "He might leave for OSU in 5 years!" when hearing of the Fickell hire.

Just a fricking stupid thought process.

If OSU is trying to hire him in 5 years then the Badgers will be in a much better position within the B1G.

Exactly.

OSU certainly had zero interest in Chryst at any point of his career.

Not that Wisconsin is a bad gig but this is the job he's been holding out for?

Outstanding hire if true, but questionable choice by Fickell. He's a very sought after name that was seemingly being patient for a top 10 job similar to Kirby Smart. Wisconsin makes no sense. It's a program that has already reached its peak with 6 Big Ten West titles since 2011 while never crossing the threshold needed to pull in the type of talent that can actually compete for national titles. Its a program with a hard ceiling yet fans that expect you to reach that ceiling damn near every year.

I think he recognizes the opportunity, why can’t Wisconsin be a Top 10 program?

Wisconsin must've made some serious facility, staff budget, and NIL guarantees to Fickell.

Bingo. It would mean that the Badgers are much better and OSU is worse. I’ll take that 5 year plan

Insiders claim there was a LOT of interest in the job.

Don't forget that massive media deal the B1G has coming in. And UW has been a consistently good program. Just hasn't gotten over the hump. Frankly there is no reason they can't recruit and be just as good as Michigan other than past coaching hires that were not great recruiters.

I've seen $72 million over 8 years posted by a couple unrelated sources.

That would be a pretty damn good hire by WISC if true. I think Leonhard will be a really good HC in time but personally they need some new blood. This reminds me of Fickell being the HC at OSU at 2011 then finding his own path a few years later

Luke Fickell will be the next University of Wisconsin football coach, pending approval from the Board of Regents.

That shocking news came Sunday and was confirmed by former UW athletic director Barry Alvarez, who had been told the news earlier in the day by his successor, Chris McIntosh.

“I think it’s a home-run hire,” Alvarez said.

Is that a done deal? I’d hope both JL and Fickell wanted that commitment.

Ridiculous to have basically the worst practice facility in the big ten

They also promised that they wouldn’t schedule Tulane.
