Didn't read through all the posts so someone else may have already mentioned it but Saban didn't choose to leave until late in the 'coaching carousel season.'

So some of the bigger names in circulation had already been taken.

For example, Urban went to UF and Spurrier to USCe.

FTR, Les proved to be a successful hire.

I think most already know the Ed story so no need to rehash.

I don’t know what you are getting at. Les had college and nfl experience and osu was winning 1-2 games a year before Les.

He was in the down turn and was still hired as a head coach in a power conference.

And obviously sustaining a program at 10 wins a year even at LSU isn’t a given. As we see now.

I guess we should have hired the hot name then in Bobby Petrino, frick that guy.

In case you don’t know Alleva was the biggest laughing stock idiot in the AD position in the known world. i was told at least a dozen times by national sports media that no one respected him and that LSU would never get a serious big name coach while he was AD. Sexton played him like a cheap Guitar. That’s why we got O to start off with and that F King

If you are a coach who desired to win a national championship, LSU is a top 5 job. End of story. History proves it.

Bama is not a top 5 job. Only Saban and bear have ever had any success there. Alabama is the worst state to live in. Everyone there is piss poor broke and smells like arse and cat food.

USC, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Clemson, Penn State, Oklahoma, Nebraska. All better jobs than Alabama.

I have heard at least 12 analysts described LSU as top 5 job due to unique in state recruiting advantage almost no other school has. The last 3 coaches won National Championships and 2 of them no one else wanted when they left LSU. A few guys pointed out that Bama doesn’t win but 1 or 2 national championship with Saban without its Louisiana talent. “ A coach that can lock down Louisiana talent will likely win a national championship, even if he is an idiot. “ per one pundit.

It is what it is

Eh I wouldn’t say nobody would have touched miles way back then. The guy had taken one of the worst programs in the Big 12 and made them respectable. People want to shite on him now but in 04 he was considered a rising superstar. He also had a pretty good run at LSU even with all the wasted potential.

O seemed like the hire because Alleva got burned by Herman ( who was the biggest potential name out there that year ) so he made the easy hire.

You mean like every coach Bama has hired not named Saban (and he wasn’t even the first choice but you got turned down by a bigger name) or Bryant?

MI came calling? Should have resigned immediately and LSU could have put Saban on a plane to walk over and win the ring the next week.

Bama and OSU are equal; Notre Dame is not nearly as good a job.

Our AD did not treat the position as elite. Now ALL the talking heads in sports say it is top 5 and I believe the current AD thinks so and that's all that matters. And whoever is pushing the idea that LSU's search this year will have trouble getting top applicants are nuts.

It's a top five job but it's also a good chance that will be a very short time job as well. You just not going to be giving a lot of time to win big. A lot of coaches just aren't going to leave the more stable yet lower paying job for the higher paying LSU gig which is a good chance it won't last very long.

Exactly... people need to understand. LSU IS A TOP 5 JOB ;BUT, IS NOT AN EASY JOB.

Let's use Baseball as reference: Being the ACE Pitcher or the 1st Base Slugger for a World Series caliber team? Ask yourself these questions. Salary & contract being equal at $8 Million & 4 years....

1) Which is the best job?
2) Which is the easier job?
3) Which job would a naturally fierce competitor prefer & why?
4) Which job would a naturally gifted but slightly less driven individual want & why?

Not trolling, but you don't see 5 schools on that list that are nationally more desirable?

If it wasn’t a top 5 job you wouldn’t spend so much time here. Clearly you are threatened by something which is why you are following the coaching search so closely.
