Cregg is a good coach in one area and that is taking developed lineman and getting them to finish off development a bit. I said in another thread he is the Crowton of OL coaches.
He's also been a bust as a recruiter since for his OL to have any success he either needs developed players (transfers/JUCO) or eilte OL recruits, which he hasn't gotten any.
Deculus is honestly the perfect example of Cregg's skills to me. He was an extremely raw but talented prospect, yet has shown almost no development whatsoever since his freshman year. he was the weak link on that OL last season too.
That said, he's not going anywhere since he is one of O's BBQ buddies. He and E are like Cameron was to Miles. He will let them sink his program before he gets rid of them.
Only hope is for Cregg to get another job in the NFL from a sucker.

Well to his credit, or detriment depending on your perspective, I think O is a guy who would probably throw anyone under the bus to save his own arse

the Joe Moore voting committee is comprised of college football experts, especially people who played or coached the offensive line position, including all of the current offensive line coaches at the Division I/FBS level as well as former players, coaches, colleagues of Coach Moore and select media.
Thumbs up emoji
They were a good but not great OL last year. They benefited from Burrow's elusiveness and more importantly his ability to read a defense. Also not to mention an offense with WRs that were able to be security blankets in the case of blitzes/pressures.
Are you telling me that no collegiate award is ever given to an undeserving winner? Really?

After looking at Ben’s resume, I completely forgot that he was the Remington Award winner (best collegiate center) and was undrafted. That’s crazy!
Ben was never the same after that injury in the Vandy game when Saban left him in up nearly 20 points. He missed the last 3 games of the season and was never the same after that. Tore his knee tendon I believe.

O has yet to throw one of his boys under the bus.
He threw Aranda, Canada, etc, but not on of his buddies he brought in.
I think people give him too much credit. Think about E, who is one of O's boys in a sense.

E is currently the head of the #19 passing offense and #49 total offense in the country while starting true freshmen QB’s the majority of the year.
I want fresh blood as much as anyone but you can’t act like E has been a total disaster as OC

Matt Luke. Check out his resume.

E isn’t a bad coach, be he isn’t and will never be a great offensive playcaller. He isn’t awful, especially with so much talent at his disposal and a good system handed to him. But after last year, is that enough for us now?
Leaving him the Brady playbook wasn’t enough. The difference between the playcalling last year and this year is huge, and it isn’t just because of having different players. We need someone better in that role, however they sort it out.

In a perfect world, the offensive coordinator hand picks the OL coach that best suits his style. Better yet, the OC is able to dictate & teach the OL based on his style.
The way LSU's offense is built is fricking weird.
We know what Ensminger is from 2018. Pretty terrible.
But he is now trying to run another guys offense (Joe Brady).
On top of that, you have Linehan calling 3rd/down and redzone?
And James Cregg is an O hire, not really specific to any coordinator. He was hired before they fired Matt Canada, for example.
Lot of moving parts.

I would love Mawae to get the job, but it doesn't ever seem to gain any traction!

You make no sense. How is Ensminger “his boy” but Aranda isn’t? They were both already on staff when he was hired?

Everything you said is true.
E is handicapped cause he is scared to change the offense
Its never going to work
This year showed that
Nothing has been added to the offense

Lots of things may happen in a perfect world, but your scenario is not common.

Didn’t Cregg just win an award last year for coaching our line?
Posted on 12/20/20 at 7:44 pm to Captain Crown
They need sink some money into this position similar to DC/OC. I'm sorry but if there's any position that's not a main coordinator that needs it it's OL and DL. You win the trenches it covers up complete mediocrity in other positions.
All day to throw makes average QBs look like superstars and mediocre RBs great when can drive cars through their holes. A bad oline makes a great QB and RB look bad.
Cregg has done an absolute shite job at recruiting. I don't care how good our line was last year he's not going to keep the cupboard full with his recruiting which is why we're in our depth problems now.

while I dont see eye-to-eye with you, this is the absolute perfect hire.
I'll lobby Kevin but also Rob.

He did. But that’s w huge conversation. We need better lineman recruiting. We’re getting passed up.
