For what it’s worth OP may be familiar with Baylor history. A colleague of mine once served on their equivalent of the board of supervisors. When Aranda was hired this colleague specifically mentioned that that would have been tough to do in the past. He specifically mentioned interest in hiring an African American coach and there was hesitance. This conversation was expressly about the fact that some folks wanted a particular well qualified black coach and there were some who resisted based on the candidate’s race, not his qualifications.

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Baylor and had never heard anything like this until Dave was hired. And this person is the only person I’ve heard it from.

I know that but he is a minority of Mexican descent. My colleague knows that and said it would have been hard for him to get hired in the past as a non-white candidate. He used the incident with the black coach as an example.
