re: Kragthorpe...Another really high on Miles' list.

Why now, when Kragthorpe wasn't then?
Hands were tied with Crowton's salary. Gut says Les looked for Crowton a job and a new OC at the same time. When Crowton couldn't land one, he knew the buyout was not an option, so Krag was shelved.
I'm guessing that Les wants to handle firing in the best political fashion possible so that the favor will be returned to him someday. Just consipiracy theory. Who knows.

Kragthorpe would be an awful hire. His offenses at A&M weren't exactly exciting. Don't give me any crap about an offense at Tulsa. It was at Tulsa. This shite has Tony Franklin written all over it.

I actually think it's just CLM's philosophy in hiring coaches. Treat them well through great pay and the ability to find 'other employment' rather than firing if things don't work out, and any job opening here becomes a little more desirable.
Did he ever fire anyone at Okie State?

it sucks to have to watch his retarded shite at the end of the UT game, his unhealthy attachment to a garbage QB, him need help from the refs to survive against UNC's 3rd string, his defense not even putting up a fight against AU, looking out of it against Arkansas, needing a lucky bounce on a fake FG to beat a shitty UF team etc etc etc
sounds like its time to plan another march.

Funny how his offensive trends look mighty similar to Crowton's. Great first year, and then trend downward.
Definitely a Les Miles type of hire!

NOT becuase his tenure as a HC didn't go as planned, but because (as others have already said) if he wasn't the right guy last year, why would he be the right guy this year?

I can see that. While I would look at Kragthorpe as an upgrade over Crowton if he was to be our next OC, I would rather Holgerson or Logan.

What is Holgerson being paid at Okie Lite?

FWIW, it is my opinion based on everything I've read that Miles wanted Kragthorpe last year but was basically told no to firing Crowton by the PTB (powers that be) because of Crowton's buyout and the fact that Miles himself was the one that lobbied for multi-year contracts for his assistants. It was basically the administration telling Miles "you got yourself into this mess, if you want him gone then you're paying the buyout out of your own pocket."
It also logically follows that Kragthorpe took a wierd job and then decided to take off a year after he was probably told by Miles "hold off a year because we can probably get you in here next year."
just my gut feeling here...belowpar - any chance the above is basically how things played out?
All that said, I think Miles needs to put the full-court press on Holgorsen, assuming of course that he hasn't already been offered a HC gig.

at least he would be a pro set guy that fits miles philosophy. that's the positive. i don't know if he can recruit or develop qb's. that is the big question.
I'd prefere Logan, chud, whipple, ect. all pro-set guys with a positive track record. i'd look to the northwestern o.c. too. he was doing well until his qb went down.

What about Cam Cameron?
Didn't people on this board say that Les and that guy had a good relationship together?

Ah, the ole "It's not Les' fault. The big, bad, and mean LSU Admin wouldn't let him fix the problem" excuse.
Sorry bub, I am still not buying that bullshite.

I say Miles flies to Stillwater (if that's possible) with a black duffle bag full of cash and throws it at DH.

If you actually read then it would be Miles' fault that Crowton wasn't gone.

Leach will hold out for a head job somewhere and someone will give him a chance. Leach was doomed because Craig James started this campaign and had all of the ESPN machine behind him. Leach tried to motivate and I guarantee 100 other coaches critiqued every method of motivation they have used going forward.
Kragthorpe would be a bad fit. This has to be a big hire not some retread that may or may not work out - also, Jefferson and/or Lee learning a brand new offense with the killer schedule on tap does not bode well. Mettenberger with no SEC experience also learning a brand new offense with a lot of returning talent having to learn a new offense - this could get ugly!

When is the last time Miles did something you didn't bitch about?
Honestly.
Posted on 11/30/10 at 4:34 pm to OBUDan
you love Miles, not everyone does and the man has made his share of mistakes when it comes to hires. You see me bitch ab the Leach rumors? or how the season finished? You have selective memory

Fan quotes are fine and all, but of course they are going to bitch about him. He failed as a HC there (some of it was out of his control). There was another poster that talked about all the shite he had to deal with, some of Petrino's staff was forced on him, had to weed out a lot of bad eggs etc. etc.
I don't think he's Gus Malzahn by any stretch, but he's a good teacher, a good guy, and a guy who isn't a flight risk.
There's a lot more to hiring an assistant than the newest name that gets your dick hard.
