Average 37 points a game. Issue was not the offense, it was the lack of defensive talent.

As the head coach did he not have anything to do with the defensive talent?

Not saying it will or won’t work, but why be completely against it?

It’s not like retread nfl coaches often work. Also, big time college coaches with more success don’t always work either (Saban). Why not go for a guy who can coach up one side of the call and see who he can put as DC?

Recruiting =/= having a front office and GM draft/trade

He's not a good recruiter nor defensive coach. He can just run the offense in the pros and let the GM pick the talent and the DC run the defense.

Why not make him the OC, hire a random coach who has experience with dealing with NFL locker rooms, talent evaluation, day to day management, then see who you can put as DC? Maybe I'm crazy but that makes more sense than hoping his lack of success in college is ALL a function of bad recruiting on defense.

Right.

The whole point of the short-sighted responses are the misinformation and miscategorization that we should be baffled a dude who was fired from Texas Tech is in the mix for NFL jobs.

Who heard of Sean McVay two years ago? No one.

When's the last time Mike Leach found two future NFL Top 10 picks at QB from obscurity?

He was an OC for 3 years in the NFL and had been in the pros for almost a decade. Comparing those two is actually apples to grapefruits.

It's entirely possible that it could work out, but its beyond dumb to pretend his mediocre results at Tech aren't his fault and shouldn't be taken into account

No one is saying results aren’t his. The NFL is so desperately wanting high flying offensive numbers and KK fits the bill. An owner looking for that see a fit. He gets a good DC he’s probably golden. A bad one and it’ll be rough. He’s worth a shot tho. I’d take him all day over Coach 0.

Right. Arizona is probably the best fit for him with a young, talented QB and an electric RB in the right offense.

Go out and draft a few young WRs in the first 4 rounds and see if he can duplicate what McVay has done.

yeah i was making an argument for the interviews with this philosophy

i'm not arguing he will make the NFL get rekt, but it's not as stupid as people are assuming at first glance

there are a lot of good NFL coaches who would suck dick in college. it's a completely different game

obviously there are tons of CFB coaches who would be utter failures in the NFL

Compare being Kliff at Texas Tech to cliff in the NFL

Texas Tech
Great offense
Lesser talent than everyone
Has to get his own talent
Will never have enough talent to really have a defense

NFL
Great offense
GM drafts players for him
He has the same budget as every other team to play said talent
Can have GM help him hire a DC to run defense.

Kinda seems like NFL May work out better.

His issue in college was recruiting and defense

That can be someone else's issue In the NFL

I think with the direction of the NFL nowadays, he's actually a decent option. He also isn't trying to recruit kids to the middle of nowhere shithole Texas.

No reason to quit to do interviews. Risky at best.

Worst case scenario he still ends up with a cushy OC job at college or NFL level.

There’s literally no risk
