Chargers’ OC Ken Whisenhunt is interviewing this weekend for the Georgia Tech HC job, per league sources. Whisenhunt attended Georgia Tech, which would like to hire someone with NFL experience connected to the school, per source.

Not a bad hire for them

Hmm. He's coached 1 year in college and that was 23 years ago. Hard to know how well hell do in a college setting which is certainly more than your coaching ability.

Given their situation it’s more of a splash that I expected if they go that route

Yeah I don't know how much I'd trust a dude who's been out of college football as long as Pacific to recruit well at Georgia Tech of all places

I’ve never met a Ga Tech fan in my life. Do people show up to their games?

Why box yourself in to such specific criteria? This seems extremely risky considering the roster turnover you’re going to have to navigate to get away from Johnson’s offense.

Strikes me as a Chan Gailey hire, which isn't terrible but just probably won't have that much upside.

Gailey did fine, but it was over a decade ago and I see Tech as an increasingly difficult place to win at. I do like GT so I hope they're successful.

That would be a horrible hire.

Would not want. Tony Elliot all the way. Not sure what makes anyone think Wiz could recruit here.

Yikes. Whisenhunt’s stint at the Titans was the single worst HC performance I’ve ever witnessed.

GT fans should want him far away from their program.

Ken Wisenhunt is a massive prick. Friends of mine in the Titans organization have said everyone hates the guy.

But as we know, being a massive prick is not mutually exclusive of being a great coach. He's a really smart guy.

Sidenote: His daughter is engaged to Zach Mettenberger, who played for Ken with the Titans.

A 6th round pick pursuing the head coaches daughter is a ballsy move

Future OC Zach Mettenberger?

It was some under the radar drama in Nashville at the time

Zach was out at the bars around town all over his head coach's daughter and everyone knew about it. This was when he was trying to win the starting job too.

Zach was probably smart enough to know he wasn’t going to be a HOFer. Might as well crush it in Nashville

fortunately GT barely cares about their football program, so I think they would be willing to let him learn the "college side" on the job, but he definitely knows football/coaching
