Ole Miss boat raced LSU the previous year on NIL transfers or did you pay attention to that?

You obviously dont follow LSU so I cant fault you. But last year was the first year LSU got serious about NIL and the portal. And once they did, it wasnt close.

This is true. Even Kiffin himself mentioned this.

Oxford, Miss is a nice town. Have you visited it? That place is 1000x better than BR. Miss ain't exactly livable all over but Oxford is not a bad place to settle down at all. I actually wouldn't say it's comparable when looking at BR lol.

I like the comment "first year mulligan." Frankly, a coach like Kiffin probably does not want to endure a season like we are going to have in 2026. If we wait for Ole Miss's season to end, he is not going to have sufficient time to buy a roster for 2026. If they lose to Florida and MSU and miss the playoffs, do we really want him?

You can't build a consistent winner by relying on the transfer portal. Ideally, you develop and retain, and then cherry pick a few studs each year to fill gaps.

Ideally, yes. But the portal narrows the gap significantly. Teams like Ole Miss, Indiana, Arizona St, Texas Tech, would have no shot under the prior model. Then you look at Clemson, a program that has largely refused to embrace the transfer portal getting left behind.

To say Ole Miss has "no chance" in this era as compared to the pre NIL/transfer era is incorrect. They have MORE of a chance now than ever before.

You do realize it’s perfectly plausible for LSU to field a good team next season if the correct moves are made, right? A lot of the 2026 class is locked in being instate kids, and the portal doesn’t open until January.

And yes, in the absolutely insane and unlikely event Ole Miss loses its last two games you take lane. That isn’t going to happen anyway and it’s dumb to humor it. They’re going to skullfrick Florida Saturday

I live in Baton Rouge and I can tell you that Lane Kiffin, or any other coach we want better stay off of the NextDoor app for Baton Rouge. I've never seen people bad mouth their own town like they do here. Frankly, I like it here, but it is distinctly different than Oxford for sure.

Well, we have our governor. I notice he has been awfully quiet lately.

I'm a realist. You think LSU is this unbelievable gold mine for the right coach. It was that , but it has not been that for about 10 years.

Yes, I’ve been to Oxford.
You’re talking about a somewhat rural college town of ~30k centered around a university compared to a metro area with a pop just under 1 million with a larger university. It’s apples to oranges
I’m not saying Oxford isn’t nice, but I don’t think whatever problems you perceive BR to have are enough to make a coach stay away from LSU.
Kelly moved right next to campus.
Miles lived right off I-10 (no jokes about his campus apartment)
Saban lived right down Highland from campus.
BR has its problems, sure. But this isn’t like asking a coach to choose between living in Colorado or living in Gaza.

I don't think he's leaving either and he will be the highest paid coach. They will give Lane the guarantees he wants and spend the money in the portal as he wants. He will be highest paid alongside guarantees. He stays at Ole Miss. They will break the bank for him. Ole Miss is not poor. If he walks from Ole Miss it's because he doesn't want to be there. Not because he can get more resources/money at LSU. They'll match that at Ole Miss and give him the money he wants in the portal/NIL. LSU doesn't offer him anything more than what they're going to give him so better start looking for someone else. He's going to leave you at the altar.

At his Monday press conference LK talked about NIL being a big driver in CFB now. But he then threw out a big “however”. He said once you get kids on campus they’ll ask 3 things: how big is your stadium, how many Heismans have you won, and how many national championships have you won. Those are often the tie breakers. And that’s what sets LSU apart, significantly, from OM.

LK might just be throwing us all off the scent. Only he knows what means most to him. But I see a competitor who hates to lose. So staying somewhere he’s comfortable 7-8 wins a year will mean stability isn’t likely to fuel his competitiveness. And on a consistent basis he’ll be able to recruit top 5, top 10 classes at LSU. It is what it is.

Hey Kiwi your are right about LSU being relivent only once in 10 years. But you didn’t say why.Our last 3coaches had sucess until they started to coast. If LM,EO,or BK had more pride and self determination the would have remained at the top. There have only been a handful of great coaches in college football history. At LSU we have had 1the was great NS,and 1 if he had stayed in tiger land Paul Dietzel could have been great. The difference between our last 3 coaches and the greats they got fat and happy and quit GAF about excellence.Money stole their soul.

Maybe he is tired of being held back by Ole Miss? LSU has never had “The Man” and Kiffin has that opportunity to do that here.

I've said this before as well. Imagine if LSU actually had an elite coach and he was around to be consistent.

History would say I'm right. Tell me where I'm wrong. Other than a 3-4 year period about 20 years ago show me where LSU has been this historic powerhouse on a level like Alabama ? Historically LSU is a 3-4 loss team that every 8 or 9 years has an exceptional season.

They definitely can't keep up. But the huge TV contracts for the SEC have narrowed the gap big time.
