re: I’m confused about the Riley buzz

I put zero stock in what college coaches say when pressed at press conferences. I’ve learned my lesson repeatedly on that.

Right. But were they getting the buzz from this forum?
They steal story ideas and commentary from this board, but they don't trust this board to do actual reporting.
People like Moscona and Jordy steal content from this board daily but they don't actually report stuff. It's 2 different sides of the media.
Dellinger is a reporter. A legit one.

This feels a whole lot like the Tom Herman fiasco.

I’ve heard so many conflicting things that I don’t know what to believe. It just seemed imminent with everything else that was falling in place.
Woodward’s candidate could be someone we haven’t even discussed.

Who at this point hasn’t been discussed? I mean, there’s literally a couple people who think Saban is the guy.

Literally every insider was saying it was a done deal. What the frick else were we supposed to believe?
That's what I said....I was beginning to believe it. Told my wife last night...it looks like Riley would be our coach. I'm the sucker too.

My question is, where were all the former players getting info? From this board?? And then they go yelling on Twitter like they have some inside info? Absolutely insane.
I wouldn’t be shocked. I mean, my mom who doesn’t know this site exists brought up thinking it would be Riley at thanksgiving. If enough fans start talking about it like this board was it can create fake hype. ESPN brought it up ffs

Bottom line is NO ONE knows anything, & I respect Woodward for that. The only thing leaked that I actually believe is only 3 people know who the coach is. Woodward, & 2 people on his staff.

Dellinger actually said close to the opposite if you read his article closely. Nowhere does he say that athletic department officials or Woodward thought the deal was done, rather “boosters and others with ties to the university.”
In fact delly, who’s sources are almost always verge or maybe even Woodward himself, intimated that as far as his sources were concerned it was never that close.
Compare that to the d coordinator search last year, when dellenger Brody Miller and rabalais were tweeting things were almost done with Freeman and Nielsen and we fumbled. Not a peep from those guys about Riley.
I think there was communication but it never got beyond that stage

Are people actually convinced he's not? He said he won't be the next coach of LSU.
First, we all know Brad Davis will be the next coach of LSU for ONE game. CLR would have made a fine lawyer.
Next, how many times have we seen coaches lie in that setting?

All of the “insiders” claimed done deal. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.
It’s almost like we’ve existed in an echo chamber and a few strategic and well played posts on a message board created something where there wasn’t anything, then others jumped in because they wanted a part of the action.
To be clear: I think we get an exceptional coach, but sauces, message boards, and even flight tracking were never going to have any impact on SW’s decision.
Also, never discredit Riley withdrawing for any number of reasons.

Well we saw how well it went last time the south tried to rise up with weapons. Maybe they were trying a different approach?
Posted on 11/28/21 at 9:11 am to ibldprplgld
You’re right. And it’s obvious when it happens. TigerBait claims he’s hearing this. TBL comes on and says he’s hearing the same.
Rinse and repeat.
Rinse and repeat.

Boosters make the calls, especially for the cost of a guy like Riley. SW can't make a deal for Riley without big boosters approving it first.
Woodward doesn't get to go commit $96M+ without having the funds dedicated for that purpose.

He doesn’t go to individual boosters for approval for every single contract offer. He goes to the board.
Furthermore, they very well may have gotten approval from the Board or whoever approves those offers to make a big one to Lincoln Riley, and that’s part of where this all came from. But that doesn’t at all mean that talks with Riley progressed to where Woodward and other athletic department high ups thought he was taking the job.
Dellenger would’ve mentioned Woodward by name or said athletic department officials if that was the case. The tone of that article was very clearly “there was some smoke, but it’s kind of crazy it was there because from what I’m hearing it was never that serious.”
Again compare it to the d coordinator search last year, when we were actually left at the altar, you had the full suite of lsu blue check marks tweeting about all of them being serious candidates are almost done. Nothing about Riley this time. Nothing about anyone to be honest

See you have this backwards. He has to go to the boosters to get the money, and the BOR rubber stamps the hire. Why would he go to the BOR first? So they can approve a contract they don't have the ability to pay? What happens if the boosters don't agree?
