If you were already rich, would you move to Baton Rouge for a few million more?

The LSU job has many appealing aspects, especially for a coach obsessed with it all.

But I've seen people throw names out like Fickell, Peterson, Fitzgerald and I have to laugh.

No way any of those guys are moving their families to Baton Rouge, LA. They're already millionaires and clearly aren't obsessed with winning a title in the way a psycho like Saban or Urban are. Kiffin actually fits that mold imo.

Baton Rouge if, we're being honest, is a terrible city. Bad weather, constant flooding, crime, bad schools, culcha, but no real culture compared to NOLA or Lafayette.

Quality of life has to be factored in. If you made $6 million in a nice, safe, clean college town, would you move to a shithole for an extra few million?

Would love to know how Woodward sells the city to prospective candidates. I guess on the flip side, with as much money as you'd make, you could just gtfo out of town to your second house as much as possible.

I'm not saying Lafayette is some jewel but compared to BR, it's a cultural mecca.

bad weather? you dont really get real hurricanes in BR and where people live that make a few million a year.....yea flooding and crime and culcha dont exist. Their kids go to the best private schools which are actually really really good schools.

ummm yea especially if i can go to a place i can win championships.

who are you talking about BTW?

Kiffin- openly lobbying for the job behind the scenes
Napier- lobbying for the job
Aranda- ok maybe Waco is better town but with the uncertainty surrounding the big 12...he is gone.

so who the frick you talking about?

Lafayette and Nola are still situated in the worst state in the nation according to many annual quality of life rankings done by national publications. They are no more appealing than Baton Rouge to nearly any out of towners/state people looking at this place (Louisiana) as somewhere to live. We live in an absolute dump but have football and Crawfish boils.

Hey I agree they’re right there with Louisiana, always ranked near the bottom of the barrel in any quality of life category.

You really dont know what football coaches care about do you?

Its winning, talent, and money.

Theyre kids will go to private schools so stfu with bad schools. Wife will be happy with more money. She doesnt see her husband anyway. He's a coach. Frick off and go watch the sunbelt

Everyone always says shite like this, but do you really think coaches just live up the town? We heard this a lot with 'Saban to Texas' and how Austin was so much better than Tuscaloosa, and it always made me laugh because the idea of Saban doing a bar crawl on 6th street is just hilarious.

Coaches coach. They spend 80% of every day of the year coaching. So long as the building they work in is nice (I'm sure LSU's is) and they can find a nice house they don't really care.

I kind of see what you’re getting at. Honestly.

I think the thing you’re forgetting is that these coaches are next level competitors. They want to win now just as much as LSU does. So you have to ask yourself, is Baton Rouge a place they are in a better position to win then where they are at currently. That should be a yes to every coach out there.

Didn’t read, but I would move if I felt I could win titles there.

If I am rich I feel I could live anywhere TBH.

Then again, if I am rich why am I still coaching.

Petersen may be a rare exception but most who have made it to the highest levels of coaching college football are obsessed with winning a title. They've dropped everything and moved their families multiple times to move up the ladder. They work insane hours. They're fanatically driven.

I grew up in Baton Rouge. Now live in Rayne and work on Verot School in Lafayette. Baton Rouge has plenty of culture. Lafayette has its fair share but Lafayette has a more tight knit community. Baton Rouge has so much more to do.

Tell us more, please. After reading this, I don’t know how LSU has existed and survived in this cultural wasteland.

With enough money, anywhere can be pleasant. Except for a few weeks in the summer those guys are working 14 hours a day anyway.

I try not to leave 70808. I’d tell a new coach to do the same. Quality of life is fine with no commute, more than a Wal Mart budget. The family with a workaholic patriarch and a smoking wife who only works for fun can afford the luxuries, what few they are but still, that BR has to offer.

Money can isolate you from a lot of Baton Rouge’s worst elements and frustrations.

There isn't a college coach that's not obsessed with winning a title. If there is, he won't be coaching for long, and I damn sure wouldn't want them here.

You think these millionaire head coaches are living on streets named after presidents or something?

A "real" coach doesn't care about all that, only the football facilities, autonomy, recruiting base, game day....

LSU is the entire "culture" of Baton Rouge. There's no real cultural identity of the city. Lafayette is basically the capital of Cajun Country
