will he ever be able to do a satisfactory job?

nick is getting 10 mill a year, and for awhile he looked like he was worth it. now it doesn't, even though he's the greatest coach around.

but the fan base will demand the championships for paying that much. wonder how harbaugh is doing with his fanbase. I guarantee it'll get ugly next year if he doesn't win.

If you don't think Saban is worth $10MM a year to the University of Alabama you're crazy.

It depends on the expectations of the fanbase and the landscape in front of you with regards to schedule.

Given the last decade of mediocrity, it is hard to expect Gundy to overhaul Tennessee completely in one offseason.

OTOH, their schedule is generally set up so they can go 10-2 or 9-3 with a competent team depending upon how good Alabama, Florida, and Georgia are in a particular season.

Within 3 years, I would expect Tennessee to be capable of an East title.

Within 5-7 years, I could see them being capable of winning the SEC and competing for the playoffs.

The one major drawback I see for them is the potential to face Alabama twice each season.

I wish market economics worked this way for me.

I'd love to be paid 50 times more than what I'd actually take to do the job by one guy with the money of several other guys.

People are too fixated on a dollar figure. If your football or basketball programs brings in $60 million a year in revenue and $15 million in profits, paying the head coach $7 million isn't some ridiculous amount. Now, if your program is in the red and you're paying a coach a huge sum, then that's different.

Saban is a bargain at 30 million.

It's clear that the concept of market economics has gone over your head.

I've said it before, Great Coaching is undervalued in college football. If you have the chance to hire a proven commodity that isn't some flash in the pan, you pay whatever it takes.

If the day comes when Saban retires and Dabo is asking for $12 million, cut him a check.

Sounds crazy, but it will pay for itself and it beats paying multi-million dollar buyouts every few years.

22 Straight SEC games. Lost the first SEC in 2015 to Ole Miss and the last this year. 8 games per season. 24-2 = 22 games.

I'd say he's worth it.

guys, you are getting on my case on an issue I never raised. i'm talking about the fan base - if you are paying your head coach that much you will not be satisfied unless you have championships.

of course nick has made money. I get all that. he is worth the money to the administration.

you guys are dumb as frick if you can't read the damn post!

most of you ***'s just want to put people down, and don't bother actually trying to comprehend what someone writes.

as a fan, what do you expect for the money? fans are paying the freight, they are not reaping the financial rewards that the school does. what they want for their money is championships!
