If SW lands Riley, is that the biggest “steal” in CFB history?

I’d say getting jimbo, but he wanted to leave Florida state.

Arguably yes

The only other CFB-to-CFB that is even remotely comparable is Jimbo to A&M

There’s obviously been a few NFL-to-CFB blockbusters (Saban, Harbaugh) and a “I’m retired due to health”-to-CFB blockbuster (Meyer)

Absolutely. Dude has had Oklahoma in the playoffs year in and year out.

I'd give the nod to Jimbo since he's won a title but it's up there considering OU is a perenial playoff level team.

There’s definitely a case to be made. I think Jimbo to A&M, at the time, takes that title.

That means Woody would’ve pulled off the two biggest “steals” in CFB history

I mean Fla State had a losing record and Jimbo lost most momentum from the Jameis years... I think the LR hire would be more of a splash

Jimbo was ready to leave FSU because they weren’t committed to winning. A&M didn’t really steal him as much as they just told him they would spend money on whatever he needed.

Lol
No

Saban wasn’t stolen from a job he was excelling at. He was doing poorly in the NFL.

It was mutual. Most of the high ups were ready for Jimbo to go.

I’m not sure

But how many top programs have been able to hire a HC from another top program?

Wasn't he unemployed when they hired him?

Not to mention Carroll was widely viewed as a “meh” hire when it was initially made

It obviously worked out, but certainly wasn’t looked at as a blockbuster hire at the time

No. Not even close. Dude is decorated with Big XII skins. It does make LSU look as desperate as A&M, though.

Jimbo wasn’t exactly excelling at FSU when he left to go to A&M. Actually he left that program in a mess.

So I’d say Lincoln gets the nod here

And they get crushed in the postseason year in and year out.

No matter though, Riley isn't leaving OU.
