If LSU had Fickell locked up we would know about it, and this is why...

If we had Fickell locked up we would know about it because it's Cincinnati.
The University of Cincinnati, The UC fanbase, even the UC players would understand if he were to leave UC for a job like LSU.
They would have announced it, thanked Luke for taking the program to unprecedented heights, named next years coach so that he could retain recruits etc.
Nobody at UC would be anything but grateful to Luke, if anything it would rally the guys to go out and make history to thank Luke for what he's done for the school.
When a blue blood like USC steals a coach from another blue blood like Oklahoma they need to keep it a secret because the backlash at Oklahoma would have been severe.

So the possibility that a head coach doesn’t want his team distracted by anything other than the game in front of them is negligible?
Maybe he’s a guy of character and cares about his current team too?

I think that they would admire his honesty and understand his decision.
I don't think UC players would be distracted, I imagine that they are laser focused in this once in a lifetime chance to win a title at little ole uc.
I don't think anyone at UC would be shocked if he were to end up at LSU or Oklahoma.
I think they would respect that more than being told in January that the coach is bolting.

Cincinnati is 1 game away from making the playoffs. No chance in hell they announce he’s leaving at this point in their season.
They would hate him forever if it’s announced and becomes a distraction that costs them their next game.
