Eh, there's some football history of late that has said differently. Doesn't matter. All that matters is what the future holds. O is made for this region. The W/L, is a matter of conjecture. If I'm looking for a date who can deliver...he might not have the most shine, but in the end, might wear the tiara.

We need to take our emotions out of this and just let the season play out. Btw, everybody likes Coach O. He seems to be a very likable guy. That said, that Shouldn't even come into the discussion when talking about the next hire.
Everyone liked Les. Look how that turned out. I'm coon-arse to the core, but in this case, that irrelevant.

Let it play out. LSU gonna be just fine either way and better next year for having gone through this change
Said texas, ND, USC, bama circa 2000 and on and on and on.
Point is, it's actually pretty easy to screw this up. Probably more likely to screw it up than to get it right.
Tread lightly my friend.

If O wins the SEC this year, he will get the job. If he doesn't win the SEC, he probably won't get the job.
I just don't get the fascination with a 1 or 2 game line. That makes 0 sense, that's why I think all the O love is kind of misleading. It's like people are setting really fuzzy lines that don't really take into account anything just to justify their "Love" of a "Louisiana Man." Why is the line there? Why is it 6-2 and not 5-3? What does that one game do, based on all of this "he's learned his lesson" and "he let's coaches do their thing?" Does one game stand behind valid support of those ideas and those ideas that seemingly fans believe being false?
Really? So one game will tell us whether or not everything about O is true? 1 game?
Honestly, I think the pick should be the pick based on a history of data and inputs, not just one game. I wouldn't waiver on Herman if he goes 10-3 instead of 12-1.

We've done the great guy with awesome character and bigger than life persona thing already.
Coach O has to win out. And that includes Alabama and he better not be even batting an eye at the end if he wants this job. Because the money wants Jimbo.

You're absolutely correct. I don't think everyone here fully understands how much damage one bad hire can do. It could set LSU back for a decade, or longer.
I'm not willing to take a (unnecessarily large) gamble on a nice guy from Louisiana, regardless of his success with this incredibly talented team. There is potential for any hire to go wrong, but you have to try to make the best decision possible, and I don't see how 8 games (one way or the other) could sell me on Orgeron being a "changed man" and the person we should trust with the football program.
Ultimately, you have to look at it from a risk/benefit perspective. I don't really think you could argue, with confidence, that Orgeron could take us to a level that someone like Jimbo couldn't, but I think you could argue that there is a higher chance of failure with Orgeron. So what is the benefit to hiring Orgeron over Jimbo? That he's from Louisiana?

He beat Stanford. Try harder.

I cannot understand why the money wants Jimbo unless they know nothing about football.
Jimbo is 7-5 over his last 12 games. Unless they just like the way "Jimbo" rolls off their tongues, there is no reason to think he is the answer.

You're right. He lost to ND and ucla.
Would you say the teams he beat were super impressive? Especially considering how much talent usc pulls versus schools like Arizona st and Oregon st.
The more I look at it, the less impressive '6-2' really was.
Usc obviously didn't think so either

Yep. I'm on board with a coach...Fisher...who is 7-5 in his last 12 games. Yes, that's exactly what LSU needs.
Posted on 10/5/16 at 1:56 am to BillF
So let's hire the guy who is 10-25 lifetime. Makes sense.

This is so astonishingly true, and yet for some reason does not resonate with our fan base, or really any fan base for that matter.
Think about this...in LSU's case, what we are trying to do here is, I think, completely unprecedented in college football history. We are attempting to hire the replacement for a coach that won a national title, who himself had replaced a coach who won a national title...and the guy we're hiring must obviously win a national title or multiple ones. Basically, we're trying to literally go from great, to greater to DYNASTY level. Anything short of that can only be looked at as a failure given what we've just done, right? Unless you're willing to accept some pretty serious goal post moving, it's multiple championships or bust for our next HC. Otherwise, we could have saved ourselves all this headache and allowed Miles to stay.
So...given that, why be so arrogant as to assume we'll just toss the shiny hook out there and land this mythical coach? Given how easy this is to miss here, should we not do everything possible to tap the very best option we have? Shouldn't part of that vetting be looking at the WHOLE resume? Can we afford not to?
As for choosing sides, I'm not doing that. I supported Miles. I support Orgeron. I'll support whoever the next coach is, even if it's Orgeron who I'd prefer it not to be. I have no desire to come back and say, "I told you so," if we go O and it fails. I told you so is no consolation for having the program falter... That doesn't mean that I don;t have a preference, and currently my preference is someone with a better track record of running their own program that Orgeron. I simply do not just assume that his great record as an interim automatically translates to what one could expect if he were head coach. The only data we have for him when he DID do that is abysmal...and while I'm sure he's learned and grown from that experience I'm not willing to risk the program's decline on that hope.

, but if he takes this team on a winning streak, I'm for it.
forgot preatty quick that we were picked to make the playoff before the season..
i wouldnt say thats amazing, i would say we finally got out of the players what was already there...
dont make the mistake of thinking "we ran the table with O" when we had an extremely talented team that was already better than everyone else on paper..
this is what frightens me more than anything.. i actually made a bet that we would run the table in the West.. I never underestimate energy. But energy wears off quickly. you have to be shrewed tactician and great communicator to be a really good coach. I think he is going to drive the shite out of our ferrari, but if you do it too long, (a couple years) that shits ragged out..
Let O give them a ton of success this year. then go after a proven coach that has turned around a program.. That is the mark of a great coach...
