Asking them why do you think he would be a good coach if he got the HC job.

They said because he is from LA and he is cajun to the core.
I was waiting on them to tell me more so I just kinda waited and looked at them for a minute before they walked off.

Is that what you guys base it off of too? I mean you can't say anything good about his HC record so say the first thing that comes to mind as these people did today.

Random post some points

I didn't think he could make meaningful changes in a week and he did.

At least you answered reasonably and not like a toddler like most on here.

He is cajun i have met the guy before. Super nice guy. That's doesn't mean he will be a good HC.

I am from LA btw so no hate at all for the guy.

Dr. Orgeron: or, how I learned to stop worrying about the coaching search and love the season.

If he weren't a crazy Cajun then he wouldn't have half the support he does right now.

I agree! I upvoted you btw. People just need to say that they don't care how bad the guy was or is as a HC. He is a hometown boy and that's why they want him to get the gig and I could respect that.

Not all this he will be dominant and get all these big name coordinators in and stuff and just be real.

No school in America wants him as head coach. He has been available for years and no one is interested. USC didn't want him after he went 6-2 and he had way more of a track record as a coordinator there than he does at LSU. The sole, only reason some LSU fans want him is because he talks Cajun and is a crazy character. Just because he can get the team hyped up for a few games doesn't mean he can run one of the top 5 programs in the country. I'm sorry, the stakes are too high. If LSU blows this coaching hire, we will see this program go the way of Tennessee, taking years and multiple coaches to bring it back. Every coaching hire is a risk so that could happen any way. That said, I'm not interested in taking that risk on a guy whose only previous head coaching stint was a complete failure.

I think the poster was right. He's a great fit here. I'm not advocating giving him the job, but if he takes this team on a winning streak, I'm for it.

He's one of the best recruiters in the country. In retrospect, he had a solid staff at Ole Miss in Hugh Freeze and Frank Wilson. He is at his dream job.

I'm optimistic about him. Honestly, I like him more than Jimbo, namely because I can't stand his offenses.

If I were an AD, and it came down to a hot LSU team under O, and Herman, it would be tough. Really tough.

Jimbo? Not tough. Give me O.

He is a great recruiter, teacher and motivator. He has HC experience and has learned from is time at Ole Ms. which showed when he took over at USC. He deserves a good look 7-1 get strong consideration 8-0 he is a lock!

Yet nearly every fricking ranter on this board feels like they could pick the right assistance coaches and make LSU a top 5 team because of demographics.

Guys, I may no shite about football, but I know you can't put a square peg in a round hole. D. Shaw would fail miserably around these parts. Jimbo has a chance, but Herman has already said 'don't come knocking on his door if you're not Texas area.' Where does that leave us? O is the man who speaks to the guys in our area, and to others around the nation. West coast (USC) East coast (Miami). He's learned a lot. And time will prove, or not, that he's the best man to lead LSU. Sometimes you gotta dance with your cousin. It's not the worst thing in the world, especially if the cousin is a contender for the winner of a beauty pageant.

You have no idea if he's learned a lot. Because he hasn't proen that. He TOLD you that.

But he's not. He has even gotten an invitation to the pageant. No other school wants him. Nobody.

Great recruiter
Great motivator
seamless transition
Recruiting doesn't get blown up
Good price and probably relatively short-term contract
Did well at USC, probably deserved that job full time
Louisiana through and through
Will have a passion for this job like no other
If he gets the job, that means we would have finished 2016 on a roll
Has had unique experiences (some good some bad) that seem to have prepared him well for this job
Seems to want to let his coaches coach

Lots of reasons O might be a good hire. Also lots of reasons that he wouldn't be a good hire. But to make an assertion that there are no rational reasons to go with O is just silly and wrong.

FWIW, Jimbo is who I want, but I do think the people that are freaking out about the potential O hire and saying how awful it would be are stupid.

All those things you said are true. But the ONE time he got the chance to build a team (not coach a few games with someone else's ream) it went horrible.

Its not like he's had two jobs and one went bad and the other went well.

There are plenty of coaches out there not named jimbo or Herman that have always been winners. Probably 20.

Why hire a high risk like coach O when you can go easily get a proven winner.

O's 'upside' is even worse than a lot of coaches.

The blind support for him as HC is disappointing.

Since we are in an election season , I'll say it reminds me of identity politics. I'm rather shocked to hear people who otherswise seem to be thoughtful and intelligent , offer up logic like "he's Cajun", "he's Louisiana" or the " he's learned a lot since then" and then offer nothing to support that opinion.
Change his name and accent and attach his resume to another coach and he wouldn't even be a consideration.

It's all becoming more clear now. It wasn't that Miles was failing, it was that he wasn't from Louisiana. Here I was thinking for years that the fans wanted the best chance to win games...

perfect analogy. Its identical.

I can't believe how high I was when we fired miles and were planning on getting one of the best coaches in the country, now our fan base has decided that a proven failure HC should get the job, because he told us he has improved. Truly shocking.
