Record tells you that
You can't hammer him with record in the beginning then not give credit later. Trend is what your playing that's why 2-6 Les gets fired and 6-2 Orgeron looks good.
I am a wait and see on Oregeron, but he absolutely has a path in my eye

If he earns it he should get it. Anything less would be RACIST

Can we agree that coaching a USC team for 8 weeks, that was assembled by lane kiffin is not the same as coaching up a team from recruiting season, spring ball, fall camp, then an entire season?
Not to mention he lost to stanford and ucla, who were both must wins on thier schedule that year.

I am not ready to crown O. I am saying there is a path.
Can we agree O can recruit?
The rest doesn't seen like brain surgery

I give credit where credit is due espically with hometown boy.
He built his own team and it sucked. When he takes over someone else team they built he can win.
When he builds his own team he can't win. That's a fact.

I'll agree that as a dline coach he can recruit.
However, his classes at ole miss were substantially worse than what hugh freeze is doing on a yearly basis. And freeze is doing it while Bama and LSU are recruiting heavyweights.
So I can not assume he would be as good as miles when it comes to recruiting. Not a given by any stretch.

He can recruit enough to let Dylan Moses get away apparently. The #1 LB in the country from LSU. Said he was coming to LSU until they fired Les Miles.
Nope its all Caoch O and his great recruiting

The hypocrisy of this fanbase is almost comical if it weren't so ridiculously dangerous. If the administration gets the impression Orgeron is what this fanbase "wants" then it may very well happen and that's truly concerning to me . I have zero reason to think Orgeron is a top 10-15 candidate much less top 3.
But this is the same state that elected Edwin Edwards repeatedly.

It's absolutely fricking ridiculous to even begin to put that on O. First, no kid is going to commit to a school without a HC in place, unless he just really wants to go there no matter the coach. Second, Moses decommitted while Miles was the coach, and has been considered a strong Bama lean for a while. He also may reconsider once the next HC is named. Yeah, he's a good player, but he's really full of himself and seems to be the type that would end up a cancer in the locker room.

Pay attention. The rant has said. He was a great recruiter and would keep the LA guys in state.
I was making a point to the contrary. If the guy thought Coach O was worth playing for he would have recommitted. No?

My fear exactly.

No, because O hasn't been given the job full time. When the new HC is named, I'm sure Moses will reconsider once again. It will be tough, though, because he's an EE.

If Moses was all that fired up about playing for Coach O, he could have easily waited a few games to see how he's going to do. Instead he immediately committed to Bama.
Look, I won't argue the point O can recruit. I'll concede that point. But if that's the big selling point, they might as well have saved several million $$$ and kept Miles.

I think Coach O was the right choice at the time considering what was best for the team. College football is a lot talent but also a lot emotion. Look at how many times somebody beats a team they aren't supposed to be on the field with. I think he'll make good decisions for the team and take care of the emotional aspect the rest of the season. That being said, it's going to take more than pure emotion to be bama, arky, and ole miss. Maybe tamu also although I think they are over-hyped. I'd like to see Herman or Jimbo take HC and keep Coach O on as purely a recruiter if nothing else.
Posted on 10/4/16 at 9:29 pm to boweswi05
I'm rooting for Coach O to get the job because I can't help but root for LSU to win. And if LSU wins the SEC, it would be unthinkable to hire anyone else.
Posted on 10/4/16 at 9:35 pm to baytiger
I agree. Hope LSU wins every game and I'm surebitll be hard to deny O in that scenario.
But it will still be a mistake to give him the job, no matter his record.

Outside of the big 4 Saban, Meyer, Fisher, and Herman who are your top picks.
1 or 2 of those are a possibility. So in a scenario that O wins out who are the top guys?

Ok. Yes.

Great motivator
So was Les.

seamless transition
So he's not much different than Les? more of the same?

Recruiting doesn't get blown up
Les?

Good price and probably relatively short-term contract
Because no one else wants Coach O. Seemingly not as a position coach and not as a head coach. He's cheap because there's no market for him.

Did well at USC, probably deserved that job full time
But yet, no one called? Not even something less than USC.....which is A LOT of schools.

Louisiana through and through
Who cares?

Will have a passion for this job like no other
Is he the only passionate coach?

If he gets the job, that means we would have finished 2016 on a roll
Should be the only viable pathway. But the more we talk about it as fans the more the fear is realized that he gets the job with 3 or 4 losses.
quote:
Has had unique experiences (some good some bad) that seem to have prepared him well for this job
Can a statement be more agnostic? This could apply to ANYONE.

Seems to want to let his coaches coach
Is he the only coach who does this?

FWIW, Jimbo is who I want, but I do think the people that are freaking out about the potential O hire and saying how awful it would be are stupid.
Thankfully, some people want O no matter what. Jimbo or not. That's the problem. Because a ton of people are saying this is a good hire at 6-2, which means it's probably good at 5-3 and 4-4. Honestly, what do 1 or 2 more games really mean? Is anyone saying 6-2 REALLY going to be swayed by one more loss? "Oh he lost 3 games, not worth it."

I get the fascination with the topic, but at the end of the day none of it matters...
If O wins the SEC this year, he will get the job. If he doesn't win the SEC, he probably won't get the job. Its a win-win for LSU if you're a glass-half-full guy. It's really as simple as that, and all the arguing/discussion is moot.
The people that get mad over an SEC champ O getting the job have no ground to stand on... The decision is clear cut. Just as the people that get mad over a non-SEC champ O not getting the job have no ground to stand on .., The decision is clear cut.
Let it play out. LSU gonna be just fine either way and better next year for having gone through this change.
