I remember when that dude was a national bluechip from New Orleans in the mid-80s. He brushed off LSU and went to play for Bo Schembechler. It was my first experience as a newbie recruiting fan of a local star giving the Tigers the cold shoulder. Go to hell, Michigan.

Makes sense, but here’s the issue. They have to hire another HC asap. Do you really want him involved in that? Any top HC is going to want to have a good relationship with the AD

Which is the absolute worst thing to do. Like almost anyone else, coaches want to know who's their boss and how long will that boss be there.
That's why LSU quickly made Verge the full-time AD and clarified that after there was confusion about whether he was really the full-time AD.

This thing came to a head quickly and the Regents are actually elected by the people of Michigan in biennial elections. They probably have no fricking idea what the frick just happened or what the right approach is. It might not even be clear to them that they even need to "do" anything. His scandals are embarrassing but if they want to terminate for-cause (the right way, not the Brian Kelly way), that's not always a 24-hour process. Particularly if counsel needs to put an investigation together over what happened yesterday
Also, said Michigan President is an Interim. He's an environmental engineer who was the President at UM-Dearborn for 7 years, and he left to take the Interim role. The likelihood he's incentivized to move quickly (or even give a frick) is small
In short, there currently isn't the political will / consolidated decision-making required to do something quickly. It is almost certain he is on his way out, but the levers aren't there to do it in 1 day
