How did Michigan fail so epically in vetting Moore?

There were more than just a few people surprised he got the job in the first place.

But this "obsession" of his didn't start 18 months ago.

Surely you should have been able to uncover his daliances and at worst his flirtations with literally teenage girls.

That's fair, I mean did we ever really hear them making a concerted effort to hold a real coaching search? I don't remember that happening.

They didn't care.

They thought they would have more severe sanctions coming and didn't mind letting Moore be the fall guy.

If not being able to keep it zipped was a disqualifying factor in football coaching, the whole sport would have to shut down.
