Why should they even have a search? Don’t they have an old DL coach they can promote?

Saw a tweet last night saying this is the kind of money WVU would never commit to. Dana was just ready to get paid.

Leach to WVU feels like an ultimate "been there, done that".

One of the primary reason UT/OU and their satellites don't want UH in the Big12. I'd rather UH join the Pac12 and let a 3rd conference into the state just to frick them over.

Actually Texas wants UH in the big 12 but OU rejected the expansion with UH and school X to go to 12 that Texas proposed. Guess UT thinking is they are the top dog in state but another Texas school just hurts the lower dogs by dividing the food up

That's a possibility. UT has a history of stringing UH along though. Part of UH's supposed deal with UT was to allow them to build a campus in the Houston metro area. The deal fell through when the rest of the conference shut down the expansion process.

No doubt there are some important UT people that do actually want UH to join the conference. Probably for the reasons you stated.

That's funny. I was always under the impression that UT didn't want UH because of some old bad blood about bleachers not being provided by UH during one of their games against UT.

Shocked to find out it is the complete opposite

Everyone in sports only evaluates how well of a "job" at certain school is. But this is a job to them just like accounting, engineering, etc. He may just be tired of living in WV and would rather spend time in a large city. The east coast has a different vibe then the rest of the country. Some like it and some don't.

the reason yall are not in the big 12 is because yall didnt have the political weight that baylor and tech had in 1996 and that the big 12 is falling apart in about 6 years unless they can convince a ND to join

Lots of reasons to make the move, but no one who's talking really knows which ones motivated him:

1. UH is paying him slightly more than WVU ($4 MM v. $3.75 MM), but he probably has more job security. Presumably he'll get a longer leash than Major got.

2. It's easier to win at UH than WVU, and UH has an easier path to a NY6 Bowl. (Relatedly, it's much easier to recruit better talent at UH relative to its AAC competition than it is to recruit talent to WVU relative to its Big12 comp.)

3. UH may actually have an easier path to the CFP, but that's to be seen. Had UH won the games that it should have won in 2016, when Herman was flirting with UT and LSU, then they may have had a shot at the playoff then.

4. If Holgerson had gone 8-4 next year at WVU, then he may have been out.

5. He's friends with Tilman Fertitta, and it's nice to hang out with a billionaire friend in Houston.

6. There are a few more things to do in Houston than in Morgantown (unless you really enjoy outdoor activities).

7. Or, if you believe some on this site, he's decided that he really can't compete in the mighty Big 12 (even though he beat UT in Austin this year and was a few fluke plays from beating OU). And he hates himself.

Houston just built a new $128 million stadium, and now this. Big 12 looking to add Houston plus 1 other school?
