Brent Key would be a fantastic hire. Period. No downside, IMO. I think you’d want to get a sense for how he would use the rich skill talent in LA during interviews, but he’ll have a comprehensive plan. Can you get him to leave GT is the question.

One thing I would pencil as a strong qualifier is having been on a staff in the SEC. The new coach has got to understand that you're not going to beat teams consistently by trying to have superior technique. Their coaches are every bit as good, so your teams better be more physical. Finesse will not get you to the top of this league.
That is probably the main thing that I think doomed Kelly. I thought for sure after the SEC Championship game he got the picture, but apparently not.

GA for Saban.
Coached for Kirby so he’s no stranger to the SEC.
Good record at a premier program as a head coach.
Young, energetic, doesn’t dabble in BS, understands today’s football landscape in my opinion.
Players love him.
Oregon has tons of resources, but their talent pool is inferior to LSU’s. I think with the resources LSU has, he could build an excellent culture and win championships.

We need somebody that brings grit and a physical swag back to LSU. We've been tough my whole life but we haven't been that lately. I think Key would bring that back.

Would love key. To get him, we may need Ga Tech to get left out. Lose to UGA and lose the ACC championship and sit home while a couple of 2 loss SEC teams get in.

Key has been my first choice all along.
I doubt he leaves is alma mater but who knows.

LSU needs to consider if Key’s success isn’t too heavily influenced by the talent of Haynes King and we end up with a Curly Hallman - Brett Favre repeat. I’m not saying this is the case, just to look really deep into this decision.

Can’t tell if this is trolling or not, but if it is, bravo. The Haynes King and Brett Favre comparison lol.

Hester was also spouting off the inevitability of Kelly not 2 days ago.
I admire him as a player no doubt. But, not sold on his pundit skills.

Watch Georgia Tech's O-Line and D-Line. They often outplay more talented teams up front by being more physical.

Yes, we need our next possible coach to start losing.

unless this guy has a massive ego, why would he leave his alma mater. I know GT isn't some mecca of college football, but wouldn't we assume that a guy who played at LSU would want to stay at LSU
Posted on 10/28/25 at 9:46 am to BayouCowboy
Hester has no credibility. He said LSU and Kelly were married for at least 2 more years. He knows as much as posters here who claimed LSU would not buyout Kelly.
It’ll never happen they said lol

Lack of physicality is what stands out to me on both sides of the ball under Kelly.
We need a guy who fixes that no doubt.
This is why you bring Moffit back. You dont burn your HC slot on this.

10-2 at Ga Tech with losses to UGA and in the ACC championship is a hell of a season for them. You can laugh, but if we want Key, what I stated would be the perfect scenario as it would leave him frustrated with being left out and we wouldn't have to wait for the playoffs to end.

Kiffin looks pretty good in purple and gold

So which is it? Moffit was shite, we ran him out, good riddance! LOL at aggy.
Oh, wait. Moffit has aggy kicking arse and isn't a bum?
WE NEED MOFFIT BACCKKKKKK
Jesus, settle on one narrative and go with it. How about, just maybe, there are S&C candidates out there that have the right resume, no?

That's why I said "if". He should have been one of the first fired, like USCe did a couple weeks ago with their OL coach. Maybe they let him go after the season or maybe they keep him for recruiting. Either way, he needs to go.
