The playoff bracket was incredibly messed up too and Georgia didn't even have their starting QB.
Kiffin hasn't even sniffed the playoffs before this year, and they could easily slip up in one of the last two this year and be a borderline team. Their best win is going to be a 3 loss OU team.
Do I think Kiffin is a good coach, yes, if Freeman wasn't at ND I would be thrilled if he was coaching there. It is asinine to concretely say Kiffin is a better coach than Freeman because he coaches in the SEC when Freeman has more skins on the wall.

Freeman also has a historic loss for the ND program as well to go with it lol
He would not survive a competitive SEC schedule. ND fans were calling for his head mid season last year. They started this year 0-2 then played nobody with a pulse since.
He's overrated but likely will continue to grow as a coach. He's a good coach. OU was looking like best team in SEC until their QB got hurt.
As for Kiffin, I actually agree with you I'm not convinced it's worth breaking the bank for him. He shite the bed away with a top 3 talented roster last year. However, he rebuilt that roster this year and look where he's at. There's no question his offensive genius and he's winning in SEC, who else you go for that's sure thing? Nobody. He's as sure as it gets outside Saban right now.
I'm not sure if that's sad or a good thing because I'm not convinced Kiffin is the guy. I wouldn't be mad with Kiffin. As long as he doesn't come checked out here day 1 like BK he would win here and consistently give us a great offense.

The public meltdown from LSU fans/national media over this situation is far overblown.
Meaning there is not much worry in the building this effects the interest or the ability to make a big hire as their next HC.
Insider on On3 are saying the opposite...

LSU didn’t have 54 million dollars to pay BK last week
LSU didn’t need $54m for BK last week. And they don’t need it next week. And they won’t need it ever for a lump sum.
Worst case scenario…. Is that LSU pays BK $800k/mo til 2031. Not a bad worst-case scenario IMO. While never ideal to fire a coach and potentially pay $54m over 6 years, it’s a Pretty good spot for LSU to be in all things considered. Exponentially MUCH better spot than owing Kelly all or half within 30-60 days, which LSU does not.
I am certain that LSU is completely content paying the $800k/mo until Kelly realizes he needs to come to the table and give LSU a deal if he really wants the cash faster.

I agree… I argued with someone the other day that claimed that the money for a buyout usually has to be put in escrow

I mean I watched BK lose to a USF team that went 5-7. All in all BK had 5 losses to teams with losing records at ND. At least the two bad losses Freeman has had (Marshall in 2022 and NIU in 2024) have been to G5 teams with winning records. Freeman has only lost to 1 team with a losing record (Stanford in 2022).
Meanwhile Kiffin has 3 losses at Ole Miss to teams with losing records, including last season to Kentucky.

Categorically false.

Beat a top 20 USC team, destroyed a Navy team that may win the AAC and make the playoffs, and have a top 25 game @Pitt this weekend. Besides that they have won every game by double digits in the process since going 0-2. One of those L's is a controversial 1 point lose to the team Kiffin thinks should be #1 in the country FWIW.

Kiffin would likely kill it at LSU, and would be a great hire.

I don't you think you saw the melt from ND fans after they lost to NIU
They had every right to melt on that loss there's absolutely no excuse to lose to a team like that under any circumstances. I don't care if they won their division. That's like when LSU lost to Troy maybe even worse.

Not even close to Top 3 roster. He had some very good talent, but overall roster was not Top 10.

give me a break
LSU needs to get their act together that is for sure...any negative hit piece about this buyout and lawsuit, I believe the adminstration needs to address it...
controlling the narrative would be a very wise thing to do, rather than let it run it's course in social media,
manage the information and the reaction to false information
If LSU has the deep pockets we keep hearing about, then I am not worried one bit

Here is where Kiffin holds all the cards. He’s a master troll. He knows it. We know it. Would he drag us on into the January time period only to stay put? If he has 0% interest in leaving, he knows that. Not saying that’s the case I’m saying if in his jest he knows he’s not leaving, I would be surprised if he trolled us into January to force us to settle and damage our coaching search and overall perception.
I would give him props if this was his master plan.

How would we get around the large buyouts that these guys demand?

You don't have to believe it, I'm just relaying information. There's like 3 really credible insiders on that site and he's one of them.

Maybe they don't as deep of pockets as you are thinking.

Lane has had a raise offer sitting on his desk for a while now.
