So everyone in the public wasn’t convinced we were hiring Riley, people didn’t have inside sources saying it would be Riley, Riley wasn’t the Vegas betting favorite? I just imagined all that?

No, all of that is correct. It's just very clear you don't understand what "smokescreen" means. LSU was legitimately pursuing Riley. A smoke screen would be LSU insiders floating Riley's name to the public/media to draw attention away from the real target. That's clearly not what happened.

Rumors were rampant about LR and all the inside sources said he was who LSU was pursuing. His name was intentionally leaked, he shut down the rumor and BK, who nobody expected or had info on, was hired the next day. Yea not a smokescreen.

What got us into this mess is Brian Kelly, not Freeman. BK really thought he'd show up and pour his BK sauce over the program, win a title, then put it on cruise control. Probably the worst thing that happened was him beating Bama that first season here. Denbrock made him look good for a bit. Ultimately he proved he has no real fire anymore. Freeman wouldn't be like that.
I'm not a huge Freeman fan just because I also think Denbrock makes him look good. But if he could get a top notch OC he'd be good here.

Some people just don’t get it. All the rumors and sources are what makes CCB so great. No one believes a damn thing, but they read/follow anyway because it passes the time while they wait on the fate of their team. Silence would be maddening.

No doubt, but he's performed better vs. top 25 teams than Kiffin has. Freeman is 14-5 against top 25 teams. Kiffin is 11-24.

Doing well at OM is much harder
