Could this be a factor in LSU not being interested?

Them getting played by this dude is interesting

Or LSU not wanting Napier is the more likely answer.

Looking like he is a go here today unless they are once again pushing the issue with LSU.

well, he and his coaching staff know how to win games. Maybe he just wants a little continuity

This is where g5 coaches often go wrong. They themselves may be ready for a step up, but their entire staff usually isn’t.

But what if LSU never wanted Napier?

Justin Fuente is a great coach and program builder, but staff is where he fricked it all up at VT. That and his recruiting philosophy, and they kind of went together. This is how strong G5 guys blow it moving up.

Why would you hire a head coach and not allow that coach to pick their staff?

Mullen took State's assistant coaches, support staff, and baseball coaches girlfriend when he went to FL

What's the problem

If you are an aspiring G5 HC looking to move up to a P5, would you willingly cede staff decisions to the AD who hires you (and the big boosters/former coaches who influence him?)

I ask this knowing that Woodward took away this responsibility from his HC within weeks of turning in the Greatest Season in the History of CFB.

I’m not sure how a program can dictate the assistants but hold the HC accountable.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Exactly.

If you don’t trust his decision making in one of the most critical areas of the job, you shouldn’t hire him.

1. This is very unlikely to be true. He will no doubt bring some of his staff, as do all coaches that transition to new jobs.

2. Do you guys suggest that our AD should determine who our assistant coaches are?

It's one thing to allow a new HC to pick his assistants. It's another thing when he says he wants his entire previous staff from a G5 school. I'm not sure what the situation is with Napier, but yeah, that might scare off some schools.
