Give me Napier over Campbell

Napier beat him head to head on the road with lesser talent. Campbell’s last 2 losses were games he should have won. Couldn’t get his team up, is this a problem?

I’m good with either but I think I’m with you, especially with his recruiting familiarity in the region

Why isn’t Fickell being discussed more? I say that because Fickell is the guy

Fickell told us no IIRC. Also, Cincy has played down to their competition WAY too much this year. I’ve cooled off on Fickell big time.

Neither one of those coaches have a prayer of getting the LSU job

Campbells resume is pretty impressive. I dont know why he hasnt gotton more traction on this board until today. If it really is limited to a current proven power 5 coach, then Campbell might just be the guy.

Campbell has spent 0 time in SEC country and is the head coach of a mediocre program. The adjustment period at LSU would be significant from a recruiting perspective. The big fish don’t have that adjustment because they already have that name recognition and recruit nationally.
IMHO, that adjustment once you get out of the tier 1 candidates is erased with Napier. He already has a great relationship with the HS coaches in Louisiana and has done high level recruiting for Alabama and Clemson. To me, I you can’t pull Riley, it has to be Napier or Aranda. Otherwise recruiting will suffer until the new guy gets his feet under him.
Edit: Not saying what Campbell has done at Iowa State isn’t impressive, there’s just so much more risk associated with him.

LSU would be fine with Aranda or Napier.

Agree 100%.

This point seems to be underestimated. I think Woodward would see this as a vital qualification.

ETA: How familiar was Nick Saban with recruiting in the South when he was hired at LSU?

The recruiting in Louisiana is the most overblown angle in all of this.

I don't understand why most on this board refuse to acknowledge that recruiting is a massive question mark for Campbell. Well, I do understand why, but it's dumb.
Edit: This is how stupid this board is. You literally get downvoted just for saying that recruiting is a question mark for Campbell lol. People have really convinced themselves that this guy is a superstar of the highest level.

lol "the greatest recruiter in the history of the game adjusted to recruiting so campbell will too".
This is one of the dumbest arguments i've seen on this site, and that's saying something. It's okay to admit that recruiting is a question mark for Campbell.
I'd love for someone to explain to me what makes Matt Campbell different than Dan Mullen. As far as I see things, the only differences between Campbell now and Mullen when Florida hired him are that Mullen was a better on-field coach and QB developer and had proven success at a higher level.

No...its the opposite. Back in the day when you had to hit the road constantly and find and scout guys, sure. Its a different era now, they all have the ability to send you film and the bulk of evals and offers are done at camps anyway.
It's a really stupid thing older folks still think carries any amount of importance.

This so stupid. You have to ignore reality itself to make this statement.

Completely agree. It's usually highlighted by Napier folks who want to exaggerate the importance of recruiting in Louisiana in the absence of resume.
