Gary Andersen was a terrible coach at Wisconsin. And he was mediocre to above average at Utah State. He choked many games away at both schools that he should have won. I hope Wisconsin find a good coach.

It's the eggheads who Alvarez is working for at fault. Tight with money.
Madtown is a great place.

SIAP but does anyone think Paul Chryst comes back this time as the HC?
Posted on 12/10/14 at 6:13 pm to Magician
He's done nothing at Pitt... don't think that would be a wise move.

Chryst needs to get fired so he can come be our OC.

Pitt might need Jesus Christ himself to resurrect that program.
I certainly wouldn't take that job.

Two Alabama posters in this thread dumbing it down.
Gary Andersen has been on the rise in coaching circles for years now. The timing of this move is slightly suspect, as well as its lateral nature, but make no mistake, this guy is a great coach that will win wherever he goes.
He beat Utah and BYU at Utah State in the same season for the first time in school history. Wisconsin is a proud program, and I would have expected Andersen to leave for a clearly top notch upper tier job.
And, eventually he will.

My only thought is maybe they are hiding the expenses of the BTN somehow. Otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever to be so cheap on the biggest sport
If you look at the operating expenses of football programs last year. Wisconsin was #2 behind Texas. They spent $30 million more than LSU did. Wtf were they spending it on?

What kind of program is Barry Alvarez running there that drives a coach to choose Oregon State over Wisconsin?
I don't know but this edition of "Pac 12/B1G Coaching Swap" sure has been entertaining so far.
Now the Beavers will proceed to lose their next 17 conference games followed by a huge win over LSU.
Take it to the bank.

No, that shite only happens after Petrino burns a program to the ground.

Well, one of them is the state capital and the other is a true college town similar to Oxford or Starkville. Stadium size was pretty similar to Starkville 20 years ago.
It's a nice quiet college town. Some people like that. Coaches work 24/7 so it's not like they have much time to get out and recreate around town anyway.
As for his family:

Andersen is married to the former Stacey Lambert, and they have three sons: Keegan and twins Chasen and Hagen. Chasen plays linebacker for the Badgers, while Keegan is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach at UW.
Hmm...

True. Mike Riley struggled as of late on the field but he drove a Prius and no one would ever believe he was banging a 20 something blonde in his employ.
Petrino went out in a blaze of glory.

If he pans out, I give him 5 years in Corvallis maximum.
I won't hold my breath on him panning out or staying 5 years.
But I agree with you that he won't stay. It's pretty obvious he wanted out of Wisconsin and Corvallis seemed like a good place to park for a while until something better comes along. In the meantime, he'll probably be in Utah more often than he ever would if he stayed in Madison.

Nice get for the Beavers

I thought NU picking Riley was an odd choice, but this takes the cake. Wow, I am stunned.

Million times colder as well. Corvallis so close to so much amazing outdoors recreation. It'd be a no brainer for me. I'd also rather coach in pac 12 than big 10 though.
