Steve Godfrey of SBNation:

quote:

If Hugh Freeze ends up as the next head coach of Liberty, it’s because Greg Sankey is finally becoming Mike Slive

Dellenger responds:

quote:

Schools can hire who they want, but the commissioner can give some pretty strong ... recommendations.

And it feels like that's happening for a second straight hiring cycle, per talks I had in Atlanta this past weekend.

It’ll be a couple more years, then Sankey will allow Freeze to only join Saban’s shadow staff to “rehabilitate” his image.

He will never coach in the SEC again. He did a lot more than call a few prostitutes in his time in Oxford.

Not sure, but no one hired him last year even as an analyst so it clearly has some weight.

LSU should hire Freeze because we are already on the SEC's shitlist

My thoughts exactly. The SEC Office can't possibly hate us anymore, so let's just say frick it and do what we want.

Last year in Les's podcast, Smacker made it sounds like he was seriously involved in creating a system to get top recruits that was not above board, Les did not correct her. Maybe I read too much into her comments, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sankey is keeping him out because of major recruiting issues that have been wept under the rug to save Ole Miss from further sanctions.

I am paraphrasing here but she said something like 'you don't go from a perennial poor recruiting school as an unknown coach and get the recruits he got in his first year, everyone knew what was going on in Oxford.'

Exactly! And Sankey has shown over and over again that he is a weak commissioner.

So the SEC Office went to bat for Ole Miss against the NCAA and the NCAA just let major recruiting violations go? That doesn't really make sense. It's obvious the SEC and Ole Miss have something to gain by that being kept quiet, but why would the NCAA go along with it?

What the hell?

This reads like Jimmy telling Karen to go ahead and pick out a nice dress.

He already does that. What's to lose?

There wouldn't be many close games with Aranda at DC and Freeze at OC. IJS...

Wonder what sankey would do if Briles Sr came up as an option.

Would be awesome if Pruitt/Fulmer went after him, and says f it.

How closely do you want the NCAA sniffing around the recruiting process?

This, plus rigged officiating, plus changing the bowl slot for your team in the postseason. And that's just football. The league office could also cause issues with NCAA tourney invites and regional hosting with the CWS. An athletic department openly defying the league wishes is suicide for the entire athletic program.
