id throw the bank at Fickell if Im notre Dame... Freeman needs more experience... Aranda played it very well and took his time at LSU and it paid off big for him... Id be suprised if he is still at Baylor in 2/3 years... He is going to have fun there, win, raise his kids in a good town, then someone is going to give him a BIG job and a TON of money... Hell, Id bet Bama is watching him very closely for when Saban leaves...

Freeman is a phenomenal coach. I don’t see ND getting any of the elite coaches that would consider leaving on top of this. So imo he should be the hire unless they can get a guarantee from Fickell. Freeman has been the HCIW since he was hired but i just don’t think they were thinking it would be this soon. Interested to see what decision they’ll make. And i expect nothing less from ND players and fans snd their new hate for Kelly. Their feelings are hurt. Not sure where this energy was when Kelly left an undefeated Cinci team that was ranked 3rd in the BCS.

That’ll save the bulk of their recruiting class. I think he will be fine.

When Saban left MSU the players campaigned to have Bobby Williams hired as HC. They got their wish and it turned into a disaster. ND better hope this isn’t history repeating itself.

ND players have talked about wanting freeman as well.
Freeman may be the right man for the job but players opinion on the matter should mean frick all

smart money or your own personal LSU fan desires?

pretty sure the dude is like Fickell, just doesn't really have much interest in coming south

And yes, other young coaches have become HCs and succeeded. No outcome is guaranteed.

Freeman very well could light it up. ND is under pressure to hire someone immediately, and Freeman no doubt is the easiest choice in some respects. Still would strike me as a little panicky.

It definitely is panicky and I would hold pretty heavy skepticism of it actually happening until we get a better source than message boards (yes, even 247). Freeman has been the fan favorite since day 1 so they echo chamber anything that remotely sounds like it (think us and Riley+Aranda). If it happens it's pretty safe to say they're in full panic mode or that Fickell+Campbell had unreasonable terms and Rhule said no.

He’s young, cool, a good DC and he recruits well. Doesn’t hurt that he’s African American.

It’s a risk but there is a lot of upside and similar moves have paid off (see Riley and Day at OU and OSU)

Would be an incredibly young staff with Freeman at HC and Reese at OC

where is this coming from? any reliable insiders? what do you think the % is of him taking the job?

you gotta figure that the majority of recruits (who now sign around mid-december) will be stunned that the coach they committed to won't be there

Pressure’s on now.. he’s the new HC. Can make or break his hc career trajectory in the next game he coaches.

That’s a lot of pressure for a guy with no hc experience.

If ND names Freeman this quickly it’s knee jerk and the administration didn’t do anything they claimed in their press conference.

It was crazy all of the pressure put on the AD coming from everyone connected to Notre Dame to hire a DC that has been there for one year. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out

There is value in experience but I don't think it's absolutely predictive of long-term success. It helps the decision-makers feel more confident about their hire.

LSU could've hired Saban when he was a DB coach with the Houston Oilers and he'd still have turned out how he did.
