For Those Who Prefer Jimbo - Question

Do you think his style on O can regularly have success vs Bama? The reason that question is crucial is that if we want to win championships we have to plan on beating Bama to win them.
I don't follow FSU but my understanding is that he is a pro-style guy. If so, do you see him having much success vs Bama?

Personally, I believe his system would have SOME success. He does run a pro-style but most people call it modern. He can spread it out and also understands mismatches. However, Alabama defenses are known to shut down pro-style offenses. Imo most people bank on the fact that he would adjust his game plan and not stick to things that wont work.

Need good QB play to beat Bama. Fisher is one of the best QB coaches in the country.

He will put up more than 0 points

With the offense we run, we are very close to beating Bama. If our offense becomes slightly better, we can be way more competitive in this series. We don't need gimmicks.

I've stated this dozens of times, but here it goes again...
Not all pro style offenses are the same. Our prostyle offense relies heavily on the run in order to set up slow developing play action passes. It's outdated. The increase of speed on elite defensive lines and particularly at the DE position has made the offense obsolete. It only works against defenses with average-below average edge rushers or teams that just flat out cannot stop the run.
Jimbo runs a progressive and fast paced prostyle offense laced heavily with spread concepts. Not only does it SPREAD out defenses, frequent RP options allow a jump for offensive linemen and force defensive ends to stay at home and read. Quick passes off three step dropbacks allow for the QB to build rythem, as well as decreasing stress on the offensive line.
Jimbo's offense honestly doesn't even resemble a TRUE prostyle offense. I personally believe they still tab if that for recruiting purposes. Many high school QBs want to play in a prostyle system in order to prepare them for the NFL.

Jimbo will adapt to the opponent. So his offense is not some unwavering philosophy set in stone like Miles.

We never had a pro style offense. We had a 1970s pro style offense
Jimbo is running a current day pro style offense

I think it is more that Jimbo develops QB's and in the past 5 years beating Bama meant you had to have an exceptional QB that can make plays when the play breaks down. Fisher has been able to evaluate the talent, recruit it and coach them up.

Yeah he knows how to design plays to maximize his strengths while disguising weaknesses.

IMO....Jimbo hasn't won a big game since Winston (you can count Ole Miss if you want, but we see where they are now).

He does run pro sets, but it is not a cam cameron 2 WR sets at all. Much more 4 wide and spreading the field. Uses a running QB (that actually does run) much more.
I think it's a very versatile offense.

Of the available coaches, i believe he gives us the best shot at competing for a championship almost every year. Based on the coaching carousel at this time, jimbo is the most proven HC that lsu could reasonably obtain. With a better overall staff than what he has at FSU i think jimbo would be able to compete with and beat Saban if he were HC of LSU.

For Those Who Prefer Jimbo
quote:I have no clue if anyone can beat Bama consistently. Saban is a jugg at Bama and when their Def isn't at it's best, Saban has opened up the offense to adjust.
Do you think his style on O can regularly have success vs Bama?
This is my take and it's pretty damn reasonable: I want a program HC that brings something to one side of the game - either offense or defense. I want the SECw to fear playing LSU just as much as they fear playing Bama. I want FU and the rest of the SECe to not only see LSU on the schedule, but to mark it as a loss most years. I want LSU to dominate as a top 2-5 team as much as we can.
Jimbo brings that to the table. His resume is impeccable. LSU has never hired a HC of his resume. Will his offense beat Bama under Saban regularly? Probably not, but it can happen. Jimbo is a QB and offense guru. It's legit and documented.
All I care about is best for LSU. Jimbo come home brother, LSU wants and needs you.

Recruiting under jimbo would be incredible. He would lock down Louisiana and Florida kids would in play.

This is correct. Fisher uses multiple formations, multiple personnel groupings & runs multiple plays out of similar formations. It is a stark difference from what we Tiger fans are used to seeing.

This however is incorrect. Fisher uses I formation a good bit. Any FSU fan will tell you this. Jimbo has always used the I formation & will continue using it as part of his offense.
Florida State also likes to run the speed option out of the I-formation.
The blocking on this play is also similar to the outside zone, making it another easy addition to the offense.
FSU uses two tight ends and a fullback, so Florida responds by putting eight men in the box. The circled outside linebacker is the optioned player. One of the safeties has crept down is playing about level with the linebackers. The fullback runs out as a lead blocker for the running back on a potential pitch. The playside tight end and guard should block the safety and middle linebacker, but that doesn’t really happen.

It's like some of you don't watch the games, don't understand exactly what you are looking at or just repeat something you heard or read from somewhere else that was actually incorrect.

No doubt. But talent hasn't been an issue around here for a long, long time.

My OP wasn't intended as a trick question, etc. I simply want to win championships. Right now, Bama is setting the pace. If we want to win the championships that Bama is currently winning we have to plan on beating them.
Moreover, I don't think 'base talent' is the main issue. We have enough talent now to beat Bama. A good model to look at is what OM does. They're are vexing to Saban. IMO, it's a less talent intensive approach than what Jimbo would demand, i.e,. 5 NFL quality OL and a stellar QB.

I fully agree with your sentiment but Jimbo has been HC at FSU what, 7 years. He should be hitting stride now. But does anybody fear FSU?

This is the main reason i prefer Herman over Jimbo. The talent we have in the state fits the spread offense better.
Bama is set up to beat a pro style offense wih their pass rush and press coverage. You need a great OLine and QB to beat them with a pro style offense. Louisiana doesnt exactly produce a bumper crop of OLine or passing QBs, but we do produce a lot of fast skill players. A spread offense would match our strength and attack their weakness (or at least not attack their strength, that NFL DLine, like we have been doing the last 5+ years.)
