mpossible to win?? There are only two SEC teams with current longer bowl appearance streaks than MSU. Ohio State’s current bowl streak is 3 less than MSU’s. .

Six of those bowl games you were at .500 or worse going in.

MSU was the first team to be #1 in the championship playoff poll.

That’s a cool obscure trivia question.

But but but Dan Mullen!

He was the first coach at State since 1955 to not be fired. Can a school be called a stepping stone if only one coach in seventy years was able to parlay a tenure at MSU into a better job?

Mullen did a great job at State, they could do alot worse.
He isn`t agood coach at a place that should compete for
championships because ha doesn`t like to recruit. At Miss St.
he got enough talent to win 7-9 games a year ,thats States
place in the SEC.

Cool beans… what are the rest of the SEC team’s excuse? They can’t go to a bowl at .500?

Makes it more or less true? The subject matter this was replying to was “you can’t win at MSU” was it not? What do you have to do in order to have done that?

That’s just because we don’t have many pine boxes laying around.

I wish A&M would look at him. Could be a great hire.

From a Christian College like Liberty to a den of "alternative lifestyles" like A&M would be quite the jump

To be fair Sherrill retired though I guess you could argue it was forced retirement

Mississippi State seems like such a dead end job for a guy like him. He is a good coach but its almost impossible to win at MSU.

From the year when A&M and Missouri joined the SEC through 2022, State had the 6th most wins in the conference. With three different coaches. More wins than Auburn, OM, Arkansas, Tennessee, USC, Missouri, Kentucky, and Vandy.

Don't come in here with those facts. You know it's "Muh redneck Mississippi State is so po they can't do nuthin. Bunch of useless farmers. They never win at anything." Proceeds to use facts. Crickets.

Unexpected sudden death of your coach can do that to you. Timing was an issue as well. Coaches willing to make a move had already committed when Coach Leach died. We probably hired the wrong coordinator, though. Unforced error. Our squad was not built for what he wanted to do. Plus, he was a good defensive coordinator and our defense fell off the map this year.

Here’s another fun fact. Dan Mullen is the only State coach to EVER get another shot at head coaching a P5 school after State.

5 of those bowls you had under a .500 record. But it is pretty cool that State managed a bowl that many years. You’ve established you have a relatively stable floor with the ability to hover around .500 each year.

You’ve also established you have a very low ceiling with a single ten win season in the last 23 years (4 nine win seasons) and a single NY6 bowl (which you lost, in the greatest season in State history, lol)

What weak sauce. Our coach died unexpectedly when we didn’t have an AD in place and the president of the university (who knows little about coaching hires) had to make a scramble hire at a sensitive time to keep scumbag predatory coaches from poaching players when the university, its fans, and the college football world itself, were in mourning.

Any other genius observations you have?

Take a deep breath and try that again. Hint: you are wrong.

I’m sorry… aren’t you a fan of a team who not once played in the SEC championship game? I mean… correct me if I’m wrong.

An ole miss fan lecturing about low ceilings.

State won the West 25 years ago with 8 wins when the West was beyond down. A knowledgeable fan would know that bragging about that is as dumb as Ole Miss fans bragging about Vaught national titles.

This is far preferable to programs hanging banners for “Co-SEC West Championships” because they have nothing else to show for the last 50 years. At least State took advantage of the opportunity when it was there.
