We have met Bienemy, and he’s a bust.

Woke ESPN commentators always tossed around his name for HC jobs in the NFL, but everyone knew the Chiefs offense is all Andy Reid.
Go KC Chiefs!

Going back to Philly when Reid became the HC in 1999 these were his OCs:
1999-2001 Rod Dowhower (was HC at Stanford in 79, Indianapolis 85-86, Vandy 95-96.
2002-2005 Brad Childress (Vikings HC 2006-10)
2006-2012 Marty Mornhinweg (Lions HC 2000-01)
2013-2015 Doug Pederson (Eagles HC 2016-2020, Jaguars HC 2022-present)
2016 Brad Childress/Matt Nagy Co-OCs
2017 Matt Nagy (Bears HC 2018-2021)
2018-2022 Eric Bieniemy
2023-present Matt Nagy.
So every single guy that has been Andy Reid's OC that had not been a HC previously got hired from Reid's staff to be a HC except Eric Bieniemy. At a minimum it looks suspicious that the only guy that didn't get hired as a HC was black while all of the white guys got jobs.

"UCLA finished 94th nationally in yards per play and 126th in scoring en route to a 5-7 season, its first in the Big Ten."
This could have something to do with it.
The only teams that scored less per game than UCLA:
Middle Tennessee
Northwestern
Purdue
Florida State
Southern Miss
Houston
Kent State.
They only scored 23 touchdowns in 12 games
They ranked 130th in rushing with 86.6 yds per game, 47th in passing with 242.2 yds per game, 117th in total offense.
And he was fired by a black head coach.
In 2023, he was the OC for the Commanders. They finished last in the league in scoring.
In 2011 he was the OC for Colorado before going to the Chiefs. They were 109th out of 120 teams in scoring offense.
He may just not be a good coach.

I remember how cringe it was after they won the superbowl (they had just got the trophy or was about to) and the reporter was praying Andy was going to announce his retirement and hand over the reigns to Bieniemy.

You must be a DEI hire.

There is certainly enough evidence throughout his career to support this.
However, I will say that Chip leaving when he did put UCLA in a tough spot after they had decided to retain him. Foster wasn't hired until mid February, and had to scramble for a staff, so the statement from Bienemy's agent is sort of believable.

The only place he's ever looked good is at KC. He's been total crap everywhere else, before and after. His stint as OC at Colorado prior to KC was the worst of all.
Well, TBF, KC Off isn't looking that great without him.

I have to disagree with the idea that he was being pushed for a head coaching job as a “DEI guy”.
Yes, he was the nominal OC in KC,
but plenty of guys in that role have parlayed even being a nominal coordinator on a championship team into a head coaching role. So it absolutely made sense to say “hey, this guy should get a shot”.
The issue is, that he did get interviews and was not chosen, probably for a variety of reasons - but certain talking heads pushed the narrative it was because of his race.

People keep passing on him for the head gig. He was let go at UCLA. There is a reason.

This gets to the point.
There is PLENTY of reasons why people would think they, even if he was only the nominal OC, that Bieniemy would be in line for a head coach job. So it’s not out of line that media types would hype him for such.
With that said, there is almost certainly some VALID reason - be it his personality, his background, interview ability or work habits - that have precluded him from getting a job. Of course, historically those things probably have been used as the excuse when the real reason was a candidates race. So people are afraid to comment.
In the end, the people who are starting threads and “celebrating” EB getting fired at UCLA because it validates their world view are equally as annoying as the ones who claim he wasn’t getting jobs because of his race because of their worldview.

Yes, I agree with that 100 percent.
My guess is, the reason is something VALID yet intangible like “he doesn’t get along well with others” or “we don’t like things in his background” - and is NOT at all related to his race.
Where the issue comes in is that, before the last 10-20 years there were plenty of candidates who were actually qualified, but were denied because of their race with intangible excuses that weren’t valid but sound very much like what might get said about Bieniemy.
So yes, I can certainly understand why someone might think his race is a factor. But I personally don’t believe it is.

I sure loved watching him play at Colorado.
