Does hiring coordinators really make a difference before early signing day?

The recruits that de committed and transfers that left aren’t going to come back because we hire an OC or DC. What you do run the risk of is losing those scheduled to sign today if they don’t like the hire. Why is everyone acting like it’s the end of the world we don’t have an OC or DC yet? The players truly interested will sign in February look at Jacoby Mathews.

News flash. The recruits planning to early enroll that jumped ship aren’t coming back because of an offensive or defensive coordinator hire!!!

Quit with the melting.

In a normal year, yes, but this is not a normal year. We have MAJOR upheaval in most of the biggest most successful schools. IMO what LSU has got to have is stable competent leadership……and we’ll get some kids who can play.

Not nearly as much as this board tends to think.

Would have been helpful two weeks ago. Not so much if it was in the past few days.

I don't know about other guys, but if I'm a recruit there's no chance I'm signing with a school that doesn't have my coordinator/position coach picked out. I'd probably just push my signing day back to February

What's going to take some getting used to is having an HC whose success isn't nearly as contingent on who his coordinators are. For the past 17 years, we've relied so heavily on the DC & OC because our HCs were idiots who didn't coach either side of the ball that each hire was absolutely critical. That isn't the case now, but most Tiger fans don't know that yet.

Excluding a very few big names at the coordinator level, the vast majority of recruits have no idea who coordinators are.

Since the majority of them did not help select their HS coach, it is likely of less concern to them than to us. Although, I suspect a few are concerned about our perceived inability to find coordinators with ESPN spouting off every time we whiff on "our" choice.

Quite with the rationalizing because you are unable to cope with a negative reality. It's not the end of the world. It's hurting more than it's helping.

I’m pretty sure Kelly can explain what will happen offensively.

Still, it would be nice to have coordinators in place.

Early signing day makes it hard to get great coaches in a timely manner.

If you were being recruited to work for a company that had everybody in place except your potential boss who would train you and you would report to, would you be willing to pull the trigger and take the position?

and they are 17/18 year old kids. If they hear from 5-6 other schools always in their ear on it, it hurts.

For some positions, I think it matters a good bit more than others. I doubt it makes a whole lot of difference to OLinemen, for example, especially if they have a relationship with their position coach. Probably won’t matter too much to RBs, because even the most pass-happy spread teams still run the ball and utilize their backs in the passing game. But it will certainly matter to QBs, and to a lesser extent, the WRs.

On the defensive side, probably doesn’t matter as much to safeties or corners or maybe even MLBs. But the difference between a 3-4 base compared to a 4-3 is gonna matter to DL and OLBs, who won’t know what position they’ll be developed for. How their bodies are going to be molded depends on that to an extent. So it probably matters more to them.

It's not so much of the coordinator being a big name. I'd want to know what kind of offense/defense they run though. If I'm a 3-4 NT and I sign and a week later the school hires a 4-3 DC I'm probably going to be pissed.

yes, because the kids come to play for the OC or DC and the HC is not there top concern even though its their second criteria as far as deciding where to go play.

if you are a prospect, you can have zero idea about your possible future with any team unless you know who the coordinators are so you know what to expect as far as if you fit in and how much playing time you might get

The important question is how much does 1 class or really this one ESD matter? 1 class will not make or break you going forward. Typically you expect a “down” class. The 2023 and 24 classes are the ones that will make or break Kelly

Yes it makes a difference. I wish we would go throw the bag at Pete Golding. The guy is a Louisiana native being a DC whipping boy for Saban and kicking our fricking arse in recruiting.
