Oh you mean when Jackie Sherril was there cheating? The fact is that MSU has never produced a winner when doing it the right way.

According to ESPN, Orgeron will be going to UT with Kiffin.

Don't see how with his Dad, Monte Kiffin, the current D Cord of the Bucs going to Tenn to do the same thing...Orgeron won't leave the NFL to go to Tenn to be the D Line / Recruiting Coord.

and you actually think this doesn't happen at other programs? please!!

i am not saying that Jackie Sherril is a altar boy, but his demise was caused by his inability to control his team at the end of his career.

If this is true, Dooley may be smart to take the job. Aim for a bowl win and an 8-5 season at Tech and then bolt. Tech is in for a rough season next year. I believe they have are at Auburn, LSU and Navy. Plus they still have to play Boise State so it might be smart to leave while stock is up.

Pitt, A&M and MSU were all given penalties by the NCAA at the end of Sherrill's term.

exactly, the ncaa went after sherill hard due to his past actions. To my knowledge the wrong doings at state were not very severe and the reason they dropped the hammer on MSU as hard as they did was because it was Sherril's team.

My point is that Jackie cheated, but it wasn't severe enough to say that is the only reason they were successful at their high point.

Well, clearly he never learned. That's MSU's fault too for not seeing him as a possible problem.

But yeah, Ole Miss is the only Western team to not play in the SECCG.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR LSU!!

IF ... and this is a big IF ... IF Dooley can turn around Mississippi State, he will be the next head coach at LSU when Miles retires/is fired/leaves for Michigan.

Unfortunately, though, I think MSU is a coaching graveyard and no one can turn that program around.

Same could be said about LSU before Saban.

The right coach can win, regardless of history. Look at West Virgina, Texas Tech, Boise State and Utah. They may have to do it with smoke and mirrors of a gimmick/up tempo offense, but it can be done.

here is a little food for thought when people say we can't afford a good coach. keep in mind we paid Croom 1.7 million a year

Whittingham-Utah $678,000
Sumlin-Houston $600,000
Holtz-East Carolina $560,000
Price-UTEP $460,000
Blakeney-Troy $288,000
Dooley-La Tech $350,000
Hoke-Ball State $240,000
Bailiff-Rice $400,000
Fitzgerald-Northwestern $750,000
Riley-Oregon St.-$885,000
Hawkins-Colorado $936,000
Peterson-Boise State $881,000

I'd like to see the short list. It will be a couple of weeks or more before we have our guy. I hope we look at a wider array of guys this time. The last time we just looked at Jimbo Fisher (who flat turned it down after an off the record interview), Randy Shannon (who didn't want to interview), and Coach Croom.

Todd Graham. Just sayin'

I read on your boards that you guys want Peterson. Does that guy have any ties whatsoever to the south?

Everybody wants Petersen. Hell, if Miles would have left last year I would have argued that he had to be the first choice. He is the best coach in the nation currently in a job where he can step up.

MSU needs to go along those lines --- an offensive coach. They need someone who can get offensive recruits in.

our AD was an assistant AD at Oregeon the sametime that Petersen was there.
