Dellenger Implies Orgeron Alleva's First Choice--Fla Loss Complicated Things

My optimistic vision was a strong-minded Alleva realizing you don't hire a DL coach and had his sights set on Jimbo/Herman. According to Dellenger--which is not law and gospel--Alleva's plan was "to quickly name Orgeron head coach," but the Florida loss threw a monkey wrench into the gears.
Looks like he was rooting for O to win and make his choice easier. The Florida loss complicated things. The picture painted here is Alleva was rooting for Orgeron while "keeping the lines open" with Fisher.
My worry? If he is "turning back" to Jimbo, thinking he's going to full-court press him into the job, Jimbo's attitude could well be: "I'm second choice to a DL coach? I've got a great job now. Go frick yourself, Alleva."
And of course the story we'd get was that Jimbo was "unreasonable" on terms.
Orgeron is still a "viable" option? If this is the hire, there is going to be a hue and cry in Redstick City.
And "the players" want Orgeron? If Alleva is smart, he'll emulate Bob Brodhead:
Arnsparger's proclamation that the "Head Coach and players will be given input into bowl game selection" evoked a simple response from me: No they wouldn't. As Director of Athletics, it was up to me to make the decisions which would prove most advantageous to the Athletic Department as a whole. That did not include placing a million-dollar decision into the hands of a football coach, or subjecting it to the whims of a group of twenty-year old football players. That went out when the 1959 squad voted not to go to the Sugar Bowl. from
Sacked, p. 90
I'm trying to be optimistic, but I'm starting to feel again like Alleva is going to frick this up. If he let Fisher twist in the wind while hoping Orgeron did enough to hire him ... then Alleva should hit the road also.

Alleva has only made 1 good hire in his career, and it's been stated that the guy doesn't even like Alleva.
I will not be convinced that he doesn't frick this up until an announcement has been made about Jimbo or Herman.
Hearing that he really wanted Orgeron over Jimbo or Herman doesn't surprise me.
Then again, we may never know who his first choice was/is until he is gone.

Mainieri? Didn't Skip hire him?

Who is the one good hire that's a male? His one good hire is Beth Torrina (spelling might be off) and SHE isn't a he. So your second statement doesn't make sense.

I don't believe anything I'm hearing in the media right now. There will be a lot of smoke screens thrown at media types to try and manipulate public opinion.

fricking Alleva making this hire scares the shite out of me.

Man I hope that isn't true. Alleva can't be that stupid.....
Posted on 11/21/16 at 7:26 am to crkelly91
If this is true then the Fla loss may have saved Lsu football

I don't know how true this is, but that was my concern from day 1. Would Alleva have a plan, should Orgeron lose down the stretch? Or would he use the wait and see approach, then make a move? If it's the latter, we (LSU fans) could be in for a long ride.

My hope was that this was misinformation.

My hope as well. Think about it. O was winning had the team playing well public opinion swinging in his favor( I admit I was one, though still wanted Herman first) he had to appear to support O while keeping the lines open. Who knows as I say there will be a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Probably so, because I don't see how you justify firing Miles, to hire your defensive line coach, and not have a list of candidates ready. Sure, if he went 5-1, and went on to win the Sugar Bowl, then you give him a "look", but it would be foolish to have him your #1 choice, then wait until he fricks up, to start looking around, and then start putting a list together.

You left out the word "potential" in your quote. Ross said, "The loss . . . ends a potential plan to quickly name Orgeron the school’s new leader."
This is just a few sentences after he said, "The university has spent the past eight weeks using backchannel methods to gauge the interest of multiple college head coaches and vet them, while also evaluating interim coach Ed Orgeron’s job with regards to his serious candidacy for the full-time position."
I don't think anything was implied at all other than O would have been given a fair shake had he won out, which we already knew.

Yes if you read between the lines, there was an attempt to seem like O was being given a fair chance, this appeases' the fanbase while still making sure we have the top choice in the loop and on going discussion.

Something tells me this article was just to satisfy the pro Coach O fans. Now hopefully they will be more accepting when LSU makes the correct hire instead of a defensive line coach.

I will tell everyone yet again, this was just a smokescreen from the get. Do you remember how dejected O has looked since the Bama game? He knows the deal
Alleva saw how things went down last year, and therefore, it is a small few that know what offers have been made. And using a certain 'media guy' to pump O, hasn't been that difficult in the way of a smokescreen
