Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell is not expected to be a candidate for the Texas A&M vacancy, sources told CBS Sports on Tuesday. After backchannel communications were initiated by the Aggies, it was made clear that Campbell would be staying in the NFL with the Lions.

I'm so happy we'll all get to spend hours debating what a candidate actually means when we all know all searches are done these days by back channeling targets, finding mutual interest, and hiring a guy and claiming he was the only "candidate."

We got it. There's not going to be a list and anyone who is reported to be not interested wasn't a "candidate." We good?

No one with a functioning brain thought he was a realistic option. Like the guy is going to walk away from a potential Super Bowl contender that he built from the ground up to go coach college ball.

If you actually followed information put out by A&M info people, you would know this is going to be a cheap hire where people like Jeff Traylor and young assistants are the kind of people we are targeting

The money just isnt there for successful sitting coaches at major programs with 20mm+ buyouts or fricking successful NFL coaches

It’s kinda true though.

Aggies may have wanted to try to get him, but he was never going to be a candidate for the job.

This was more about his connection to the program. Campbell remains closely associated with the team (Billy Liucci was also his roommate at A&M). It still wouldn’t shock me if it eventually happened, just not this time.

I’ve been saying this lol. I guess bc I’m an LSU fan people assume it was a dart. It’s just reality.

You aren’t paying someone $76 million then another ridiculous buyout plus an insane salary to get an established elite coach. Nobody would.

They've known all along he wasn't going to be the hire. I watched an interview with the guy who owns the texags fan website (Billy Liucci) and he said Dan Campbell wasn't leaving Detroit right now. He was college roommates with Campbell and is still friends. So, this wasn't some big shock to the aggies.

Moreso cause you’re an anonymous message board poster and nobody catalogs your opinions
