What I took away from that game is that Miles was holding the team back. I don't know how much Coach O had to do with how they looked, or that some other coach couldn't have had the same results.
Another aspect that O emphasized was cutting down on the practice and more time in film study. He noted that the long practices fatigued the team. When was the last time the team amassed over 300yds in the 2nd half and still looked fresh at game's end? He attributed this to what he learned working with Pete Carroll.

Keep up the good fight, BillJ. LSU looking good the next few games is more of an indictment on Miles/Cam than a credit to Coach O, in my mind. I don't mean to be rude to CEO, as I know he is doing a fine job of rallying the troops, but this team was supposed to dominate. We have the talent. Coach O and staff are just not hindering them like the old regime.
P.S. BillJ you never liked Ensminger. I used to occasionally ask you about him and you were always against him.

Jesus dude I was arguing against the notion that you have to be some top DC/OC to be a great HC.
OK, and I explained to you that Harbaugh (who was not a OC/DC) didn't fall flat on his face when he got his shot.
So if you're not a hot shot OC/DC, maybe do a little better than 3 conference wins in 3 years before you get your next big job.

well Ensminger was calling the plays so why not just hire him?
Well according to one argument I came across, the key to a good HC was to be able to succeed with changes in coordinators. Ensminger has a less than stellar record as an OC so Coach O must have powered up the offense in spite of his OC. That freaking genius! I heard this weekend O will be working on the cure for cancer after the USM game.

The better example would be Urban Meyer, who got a HC job despite having not ever been a coordinator.
Dabo too.

Sure, Meyer was not an OC, but thats 100% his offense he's ran since Bowling green. He's an offensive genius.
Not fair to compare him to Dabo.

We know. We've heard it. a million times.

Since he coached with Carroll before his stint at Ole Miss, why didnt those learnings show up there?

So Harbaugh knew what worked for him from the get go. O didn't.
Again, I don't give a shite about how his time at Ole Miss went when it is known as a fact that he is doing things so much differently than he did then.
He did very well at USC with that mess. His time here the rest of the season will weigh a lot imo.
So far, he has a "A".

He thought his way was better. He had to learn the hard way. Regardless, he learned.

Yep. That's what he says anyway.

We heard this back in 2005. Miles was doing full contact drills all season long while the prior coach was light on contact during the season. Once again, it's more of a knock on Miles than a feather in Coach O's hat.

That's what we've seen. In practice. We also saw his offensive ideas implemented. He wanted more west coast style offense and thats what we saw.

Maybe he has learned how to be a better coach. I don't think whether he has or hasn't is knowable or will be knowable at any point this season. LSU isn't a testing ground for coaches looking to redeem themselves.

Okay.
Ya'll make me not even care anymore.

People inside the football ops building love Coach O. He needs to beat Bama and Florida to have a good shot. Regardless, Ensminger knows he will not be the OC next year.
Posted on 10/14/16 at 5:34 pm to Shaun176
Great, now my stomach's in knots. Look, it's not that Coach O absolutely is guaranteed to fail. He might have learned from past mistakes and be good now. But you can say that about 100's of former failed coaches and they're not getting serious consideration from LSU. To do so would be settling and LSU's football program should be beyond having to settle. Just rolling with Coach O would be the greatest example of settling I can imagine at this point.

My issue with Steve mostly had to do with staff configuration, I don't believe I railed on him as a coach as much as say that worthless frick BDP

Would be a shite hire.
No he won't. He has all the resources to succeed here and will let his assistants coach. No way he does worse than Miles, sorry. And that means 10+ wins a season except for next year.
Edit: next season will be a shitshow regardless of who the coach is.

I just cannot fathom buying out Miles and Cameron when we did and spout off money is no issue just to turn around and hand this over to Orgeron. The guy was horrible at Ole Miss. Yes he did a good job at USC filling it but was passed over at the end of the season for a reason. He has no proof what so ever that he can sustain a program like LSU long term when other factors are involved long term when we have a chance to hire someone more qualified and proven.

If those in power at LSU are foolish enough to believe this, we are almost certainly destined for difficult times.
Ask USC, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, or Alabama if winning is a guarantee at a football power.
