Forbes most recent list of college football programs has LSU 7th and Georgia 9th.
For "most valuable", not "most profitable". Last year it states LSU had a profit of $39M, while UGA had a total profit of $45M. It also says our overall "value" last year was 3rd, illustrating my original, although misunderstood, point that UGA can open the checkbook and get Chavis if they wanted to.

and LSU could open theirs and match. They are pretty close to even as far as money is concerned. That is why when you said UGA could pay "a lot" more than LSU it was comical. LSU can pay whatever UGA can and vice versa.

You assume LSU wouldn't counter a UGA offer?
Posted on 12/24/09 at 9:23 pm to DEG
gotta go with the other guy...chavis was offered the DC job at clemson last year, would have made a decent amount, free reign over the D and could have brought alot of his tennessee guys with him, and he still chose LSU, doubt he is leaving

Cat and Dinardo you are both right. LSU can spend as well. Again, my original point was simply that we can bid with you, that's all. With a school like Clemson perhaps they might not want to match a high offer than LSU could put on the table, whereas UGA could see your bid and raise as well. I really think yall misunderstood my intentions, which I tried to explain in my long post on the 3rd page. I wasn't claiming "UGA is better than LSU" or "LSU sucks", I was just saying that UGA had equal at worse resources than LSU when it comes to persuading a coach. Nothing more.

You sure know how to make backhanded compliments.

well am I wrong Matt? What resources does LSU have as a program as a whole that are clearly superior to UGA in regards to hiring a DC? If my comment came across as insulting I'm sorry, I didn't mean it in that manner. I was attempting to put LSU and UGA on an even plane.

Bottom line, Chavis has been at LSU one year. It would be very surprising for him to go to another SEC school after one year at LSU.
Not saying it can't happen.....just that logic suggests it will not happen.

Well, since UGA is AT WORST on an even playing field with LSU, why don't you enlighten us by highlighting what resources UGA has that are clearly superior?
What inherent advantages does UGA have that LSU doesn't? We've answered that question: none.
Your facilities can't be much better.
You aren't spending more.
Your state doesn't have more talent. Your team doesn't have more talent.
Your program doesn't have more prestige.
Your program hasn't had a more successful last 10 years.
Your coach isn't better.
The current state of your program isn't better.
Your division isn't any easier.

that was not your original intent at all. You talked out of your arse, got called out on it, and you're now back tracking like an SOB.

"Equal at worse". Those were my exact words right? So what does that mean exactly? It means that when it comes to the resources valuable in bringing in a coordinator (money, facilities, current head coach, location, yadda yadda), UGA is not inferior to LSU in any of those categories. Not inferior to LSU is the same thing as equal at worse. We may or may not be better at some, which apparently yall think we are not, but we are not inferior either. So equal at worse. Looking at a vertical scale of:
Better
Equal
Worse
If UGA is not worse than LSU as a whole, which I believe that we are not, then we would be equal at worse. That's what I said and I still believe that. I was not talking out of my arse and not trying to put down LSU.

honestly i wouldn't be upset at all if chavis left. he did a great job improving our d and i really loved the play he got from line backers but his bullshite d on 3rd and long rubs me the wrong way. Id rather a saban/muschamp style scheme

Heartbreak, I've seen a mixed bag of reaction to Chavis on Georgia boards. Some are stubborn and won't settle for any less than Smart of VanGorder, which ain't happening IMO. Personally, I would be thrilled with Chavis because he's proven in the SEC. But to be honest, at this point I'd be happy with just about anybody. Fundamentally our defense has been so horrendously awful the past several years that anything would be an upgrade. I'll be glad when this whole thing is over with for sure.

to see the good things happening in br and leave would be stupid
Posted on 12/24/09 at 10:21 pm to tigermike200444
Mike, honestly I have trouble believe that he would pack up after only 1 year at LSU. Going back to my OP, I was just passing along what someone on the Dawgvent posted. It's interesting for sure, but who knows how reliable it is. I find it hard to believe that this one guy would have the scoop but the writers wouldn't.

lsu will be a ton better next year
maybe another championship

no matter how you cut it LSU>UGA

I don't think you understand what the term "equal at worse" (it's actually "equal at worst" btw) actually means. It implies that many or most would consider UGA's resources superior to LSU's. Equal at worst implies that the worst possible light one could view UGA in would have them equal to LSU. That's an insult, whether you were aware of it or not.

1) Athens is better than Baton Rouge
2) Richt is, at worse, equal to Miles as far as a boss
3) MUCH more fertile recruiting grounds, ie, talent to work with
4) We can spend a lot more than LSU
Athens, while prettier, does not compare to the opportunities available to one in BR.
I'll grant you #2
Go check the % of players in the NFL that are from LA.
You can't pay Chavis anymore than we can.
Oh, and just so you know, my wife, sister, and many friends graduated from UGA. I lived in Atlanta for 15 years and I still go back a couple of times a year.
So spare me the 'you don't really know Athens' line.
