Saban was a master at setting expectations (using media) and deflecting blame onto the players..
Not under the bus, but he communicated what was needed very effectively, and that gave the fan base a lot of confidence that things would get better

Because you see when Saban threw players under the bus it was all part of his master plan to calm down the fans and keep things real.
Therefore it's also Miles' fault we have "the worst fans in college football" (to use a direct quote from a Washington fan I met regarding what he heard about LSU).

All I'm saying is if Chavis moves on I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it was due to his having no desire to work around a fanbase that hates your guts for winning nine games.

I think what I said was, he did a better job of managing your (fan) expectations and your emotions after a loss, or bad play or whatever (dissappointment).
You have to decide if I am right or not....my opinion isn't changing on this subject...
Saban was a master at using the media for lots of things, dealing with the fan base and their whining was one of them.
By the time Saban left us, he had raised the expectations sky high...by winning, getting LSU respect around the SEC and the Nation!

Of the many, many absurd things I have read on TD, this has just made my Top 5. I will either attribute it to too much Christmas cheer

When Les Miles came to LSU, the program was like receiving a massive inheritance...and we all know who left the inheritance, so lets just give respect where respect is due, ok?
LSU's talent was Elite in CFB, the player culture, the expectations, the LSU way of doing things blah blah...in 2006 LSU was probably the best team in the nation...by the end of the year...UF probably didn't want to play us again..
I like Miles, I am not hatin on him, nor am I here to worship Saban, I just like talking with facts and less emotion...I fail at this at times, being a passionate fan...but, a lot of Coaches could have gone 11-2 with LSU's program...People forget how rich in talent LSU was...we still are, but ...well we shall see..
Miles could help himself by talking to the media the way Saban did, that is all my point was in the beginning..
Overall, I am a positive poster, mixed with passion and realism, which can come across as a negatiger...which I am not..

LSU wasn't already at the top of the world when Saban left, nah. Miles definitely didn't inherit a program already stacked top to bottom, with tons of resources, nah.

And what was our record that year, under the leadership of the greatest coach of the free world? I seem to remember losing our bowl game that year on a last second gaffe by our secondary, coached by Shorty himself, after not using a timeout we had to set our defense (great clock management?). Oh yeah, and the only reason we were in a position to win was because he finally caught on to the fact that Marcus Randall sucked and let JR out of the doghouse. At least he left a legacy from that game (besides it being one of several games he lost in the last minute):

I agree. What did we win that year? With Nick???? 8 Games? With good ole Marcus Randal at QB. He sucked.

I'm pretty sure Chavis is happy in Baton Rouge. The only reason he would leave would be to move closer to home. That would be the only reason.
