Chavis to UGA rumor from the dawgvent...

First and foremost, I'll admit this is just internet hearsay and probably false. BUT, there is a poster on the Dawgvent (the $$$ UGA rivals site) who is claiming some pretty specific info. He says that UGA and a DC have already agreed and it is a done deal, with a press conference being set for January 2nd. The poster has also said that:
1)The DC's team is playing on 1/1 (which largely narrows the field).
2) Not Smart or VanGorder
3) Not OSU's DC.
4) It's a 3 year deal.
5) It is a proven, top flight DC.
6) He is not listed on UGASports's DC Hotboard (which Chavis is not).
Using deductive reasoning, this would point strongly to Chavis. I know there's a 4 page Chavis thread below but I didn't read it. What are yalls thoughts?

Yeah I saw his post as well. Other people have posted other hear say stuff, but I'm not really buying it.

He is a UT man, he will not coach an SEC East rivel.
My guess is you have your very own ZeeDustin over there.

Would make sense if he misses his family and wants to be closer, but I have heard he is building a house in BR.

i've heard he wants to get back closer to south carolina to be near his family. chavis has done a very nice job this year, but i won't be too upset if he leaves.

You're right. Coaching a division rival is a cardinal sin in the SEC.

How many have turned down the job?
Posted on 12/24/09 at 3:11 pm to LSUDad
According to what has OFFICIALLY been released to the public and reported by UGASports, nobody has "turned down" the job, because nobody has been "offered" the job. There have been several like Bud Foster and Vic Koenning who had been contacted to gauge their interest, but that does not constitute a formal offer. According to the pay site, nobody has actually been extended a for real job offer. Of course, this is just what has been reported. For all we know (and the writers for the site), we could have offered 20 people but we wouldn't know about it.

Is Chavis a good recruiter?
Posted on 12/24/09 at 3:13 pm to LSUDad
No one has officially been offered, so no one has officially turned down the job. UGA had asked to speak with Bud Foster, then he signed his extension before they even spoke.

Saban was not an "LSU man"
Spurrier is just a dickhead.
Tubbs was definitely not an Ole Miss man.
The only one you have an argument with is Spurrier. . .who is a prick.

From what I understand that is not his strong suit. I'm not worried about though. BVG wasn't a great recruiter either but he still fielded fantastic defenses. We have 2 VERY good recruiters on staff not including Rodney Garner, who may or may not leave. And then of course Richt. I'm not worried in the least about recruiting, I just want a good defense again!

True, but in the coaching profession, its better for a school to never offer, turn down, go a different direction, etc., than for someone to pass on the job.

OFFICIALLY
Is the key word here.....
I know a few coaches that turned down jobs that were never "OFFICIALLY" offered to them.
Best of luck in finding the right coach.

Todd Grantham is another name floating around. As is a few more.

When considering a coaching job it comes down to location and pay; just like in any other profession. Coaches don't give a shite about ex-team's division or conference rivals.

This is a good point, recruiting is not a problem at UGA.

To the point that I hope he is gone before we play UT.

But it seems like we lose at least a handful 4 and 5 star defensive players to different SEC schools a year.

I doubt it. Happiness is happiness. Georgia is closer to home. That's the only reason this rumor is believable.

To where?

It's recruiting man, you can't get 'em all. For the most part, our staff gets about 90% of the guys we REALLY want every year. For every Greg Reid we lose, we get a Branden Smith.
