#Chargers strongly considering keeping HC Brandon Staley, source tells @theScore. Staley makes in the neighborhood of $4M per season. There’s a chance however, he’ll have to make significant staff changes. Staley expected to meet w/ownership in near future. Internal talks ongoing

And this is how it should be. At least 3-5 years before you fire a coach, and his contract is for 4. The Chargers improved under his watch so he hasn’t done anything to get fired. And he’s a young guy. He’ll learn from what went wrong and hopefully fix them moving forward. Let the man coach the majority of his contract before you boot him and have to pay two salaries, or fire him if they melt down next season.

The Jaguars game was awful but he did take an injury riddled Chargers team to the playoffs. I can understand their decision.

I agree they should keep him. But for a defensive minded head coach to lose a game with a 20 point lead is really bad.

You don't want to waste too many of Herbert's years.

$4 Mill a year is some kind of weak in today's HC profession

If you want to replace Staley, fine. Doing it with Payton forgets all of the stupid ways Payton choked the end of playoff games with a Hall of Fame QB. Got walked off three years in a row with a HOF QB and lost playoff games to such notable (not HOF) QBs as:

Rex Grossman
Matt Hasselbeck
Alex Smith
Case Keenum
Jared Goff
Kirk Cousins

It’s humorous when you think about the need of why this is even stated.

This is the real reason why he isn’t getting fired and why they aren’t going after Payton.

They are not a fan of spending money on coaches or spending first round picks on things that aren’t first round picks for themselves

All but confirms Staley is safe, just staff changes.

Yep. That's how I 'm reading into that as well. Staley will be back.

That’s twice now he’s been fired as an NFL OC, which naturally means he’ll land on his feet with another organization.
