BOB rumor floated to make us feel better about eventual hire?

I’ll preface this with I can’t imagine anyone inside the administration is actually considering BOB. I’m also not sure how this administration actually conducts its searches in terms of deliberately releasing misinformation.
The only theory I could come up with about floating BOBs name out there is it is meant to make fan base feel better about the ultimate hire, especially if it isn’t what most would consider a “home run” such as Riley. For example, Napier may not be in everyone’s top 3, but I imagine almost everyone would prefer him to BOB. Just a thought.
If BOB is a real candidate, this search is going poorly and there is something else going on.

Door in the face technique. Make everyone melt about BoB and then when we hire Napier the people who didn’t want him will be grateful it wasn’t BoB

Aranda and Napier are the fallback options. A decision has to be made on who they want to officially offer first. Aranda has already been in talks with USC

Nah. I think its just a bunch of "shot in the dark" by media people. The real search is too quiet. They aren't getting ANY real info. They're not used to that.

Other smaller schools are likely looking at him and his agent made up the LSU rumor to kick those schools into gear

Floated for similar reasons to the Mike Bianco rumors during our baseball search, imo. No source, obviously. Just super suspicious how an inferior candidate is floated as a legitimate possibility in the 11th hour.
