IMO we should set aside how much Orgeron makes as the primary issue. Miles did not agree to make notably less and that wasn't the fundamental problem with him.

The fundamental problem with Miles (and Orgeron) is they bring no mastery of offense, defense, or special teams to the table. They will always face a competitive disadvantage with other head coaches with a better football ability.

I agree with you that Orgeron might be implicitly admitting his deficiency but I don't think that point will be obvious to his supporters - who will probably interpret it as program ahead of personal interest or some other more positive possibility.

O wants the job and knows it plays into his favor to take $2-3 million against the $5 or $6 million plus buyouts LSU would have to pay for a Jimbo or Herman. I'd figure his thinking is $2-3 million is great money. Then once he gets the job, he'll get the chance to prove his worth and up his salary in renegotiations.

It's better than hiring the best man from your wedding and being exposed.

What's wrong with hiring the best available coordinator? Why the hell is that bad? Lol

Let's look at a snippet of recent history regarding the type of coaches that have won NCs.

2015 - Bama - Saban - Defensive oriented tactician
2014 - OSU - Meyer - Offensive oriented tactician
2013 - FSU - Fisher - Offensive oriented tactician
2012 - Bama - Saban - Defensive oriented tactician
2011 - Bama - Saban - Defensive oriented tactician
2010 - Auburn - Chizik - Defensive oriented tactician but I'd put an asterisk on this one because he basically won bc of Scam
2009 - Bama - Saban - Defensive oriented tactician
2008 - Forfeit- Meyer - Offensive oriented tactician
2007 - LSU - Miles - CEO
2006 - Forfeit - Meyer - Offensive oriented tactician
2005 - UT - Mack - CEO
2004 - USC - Carroll - Defensive oriented tactician

As you can see, the only CEO- type coaches to win a title in the last 12 years are Mack and Miles and they had a revolving door at coordinator and the game passed them both by because neither was a great Xs and Os guy.

Look at the top 25 teams today and how many are led by CEO coaches. Not many.

Also, you'll see a ton of offensive guys. What that tells me is that with the rules, the spread, etc., it's a lot easier to find a great offensive coach than defensive.

You have to keep Aranda at all costs. Offensive "gurus" are a dime a dozen. Love Coach O but unless they are getting Fisher and maybe Herman, I'm going with Aranda.

Kiffin has had 3 different QBs in his 3 seasons

SEC rank for scoring offense vs the P5

2016 - 1
2015 - 3
2014 - 2

SEC rank for total offense vs the P5

2016 - 1
2015 - 4
2016 - 3

I'll never understand that picture. How in the frick did they get THAT close before someone noticed that shite wasn't lining up? No one saw that coming two or three sections out? That at least found have been far enough to make adjustments, put in a curve, etc.

Again I'll say it. O WILL BE HEAVILY DEPENDENT ON HAVING TWO ELITE COORDINATORS to sustain success. I don't understand the mentality of giving him the job based on winning games he should win with another coaches players.

This team is screwed if aranda leaves and O is the head coach.

can you name the coach who had this resume (and yes this is all of it) before getting his first HC job?

Western Kentucky (1994–2001) (unpaid assistant)
Oakland Raiders (2002–2003) (QB coach)

answer

I just figured that one of your boxes to check off for a head coach at LSU would be "winning record as a head coach!!!". Maybe that's just me. All of this "pushes the right buttons" nonsense makes it sound like a con job.

Orgeron and Kiffin reuniting to lead LSU's football program. Wonderful.

We'll receive sanctions from the NCAA within 3 years.

The only curious thing from this is who is the mystery OC if Kiffin does not come here if Coach O is the permanent head coach, I assume he is talking about Briles?

Dabo is the poster child for the CEO type head coach who is a recruiter. I would say that he is doing a pretty good job.
