Congratulations to Ron English on the Eastern Michigan gig, but is it necessary for every media outlet to mention he is the 5th black coach to join the FBS ranks. It seems like that's the story, and the hiring itself is secondary.

Is this news to you ?

ESPN has been kissing Obama's arse...
every time the PLAYOFF comes into play...
it is about OBAMA's playoff.

...as if the government should have a say in the Playoffs...
of course this is all from the BLACK announcers...
the same ones that say that race should never be an issue.

What they mean is that RACE should not be an issue, unless it favors them.

Sportscenter quote by Brad Childress, the HC of the Vikings: "As Barack Obama said, ' Our destiny will not be written for us, it will be written by us'."

Go to hell espn, go to hell! And your agendas.

In addition to "Separation of Church and State", should be separation of "Sports and State."

Are we soon going to see the repay officials calling the White House for confirmation?

I didn't know that Ron English was black and really don't care. Why does it matter?

BTW, if Herm Edwards were white would he have a job?

black candidates face a vicious circle. Schools want to hire proven winners, but it has been difficult for black coaches to obtain any kind of record because they've not been hired. This is definitely a product of racism.

i didn't know he was black either and you are right it shouldn't matter but we live in a society where it does it shameful and sad but it's true. A man should be hire because that school believes he can do the job, not because of the color of his skin but with that said also he shouldn't be overlooked becuse of the color of his skin

I'm still waiting to see a black coach in the NCAA that's actually worth a damn.

Even though there's only five of them, I have yet to see one that's worthy of all the hype.

No, Turner Gill's MAC championship doesn't qualify.

Sly Croom's one winning season doesn't do it, either.

I'm waiting to see one that can win in Division 1 consistently, and win conference championships consistently.

And don't get me wrong, I WANT it to happen, so that I'm no longer beat over the head with the race card by the media any time a new coach is hired. I want this issue to be done and over with, I'm so tired of hearing about it. The day a black man hoists the crystal ball will be a happy day indeed.

But I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible, judging from the track record so far.

Let me show you why I disagree.

Yes, Keith acknowledges, more black coaches have been granted interviews in recent years, but when compared to the number of minority coaches in college basketball or the NFL, college football lags far behind.

Now, if there is racism in the hiring of college football coaches, why is there no racism in the hiring of college basketball coaches? The people responsible for hiring college football coaches are the same people responsible for hiring college basketball coaches.

I am not saying there is NO racism but I am saying that it is not the sole reason, or even biggest reason, there are fewer black college football coaches.

He was picked by Dick Vermile to coach KC, so yes. BTW, he hasn't had much success, but if you've listened to him you would want to "run through a wall for him". He's very charismatic.

That's stupid. Winning games at Buffalo is impressive. Winning a confrence championship is down right amazing, I don't care who the coach is.

Yeah, it's awful. Seems like they almost create race issues by constantly mentioning this.

Also, FWIW, I don't think English was a good hire.

Ron English got that job because he is black, not in spite of being. He is and has been a pretty shitty coordinator.

one year of dominating vastly inferior big 10 competition makes anyone competent.

I have to admit that I've never been that impressed with him. He's never had consistently good defenses and I think he refuses to acknwolege that the spread exists.

Maybe if they had a shot at a good job may be you would see one; most of them get jobs that are hard as hell to win at.

That's the way the game is played. You WORK you rway up progressively. If you fail at an intermediate step, you do not progress (immediately at least).

Yeah, like ND.

Oh, and it's not like UCLA has had any past success or is in a recruiting hot bed.

Please.

Not much I can say there. Seems like there were more qualified applicants available (White and Black). They picked an "Auburn Guy". And now they have to live with it. When LSU hired Archer, there were better candidates available. We suffered the consequences for a decade. AD's don't allways make the "best" hire. In fact sometimes they make terrible hires. In todays DIV 1 college football landscape, I think Auburn situations are rare. The money dictates that they at least try to hire the "Best" man available.

I certainly hope at LSU we DO NOT consider race either for or against ANY coaching candidates. Just win Baby, (but do it with class)!
