I will admit that I only started paying attention to Gill last year when Nebraska was looking for a coach, but seeing what he has done is impressive.

If you haven't been watching Strong since 2001 at USCeast or UF, you haven't been paying attention to SEC football. He's a solid DC and probably deserves a shot over someone like Chizek, Dave Clawson, Ron English, Peveto, etc.

How old do you think I am???
Just hire the best person for the position regardless of race. What's so right or wrong about that???

I don't know how good of a job K State is. I know they won some games and made a BCS bowl, but they played a lot of weak teams. Prince tried to bring them up to big boy levels but just couldn't do it.

Bill Synder was 136-68-1 with four Big 12 North titles.

i agree and i disagree because there have been some good ones that have been overlooked but now that some one is speaking out about it; however annoying it is. It's causing some schools to atleast take an honest look at some of them

Snyder did awesome compared to what they were before. Although I think he only had three Big 12 North titles and I know he won one in 2003, but his OOC foes were UMASS, Troy, Cal, McNeese State and Marshall. Texas and Nebraska were the only ranked teams on their schedule and they went 1-1 against them and Nebraska was overrated at the time. They were an OK team, but it's not like they were Florida or Ohio State or some team like that. That's all I'm saying.

There is far too much emphasis on race. In my mind, forcing everyone to interview a black candidate by rule is an insult to black coaches. I really don't believe a university would rather loose with a white coach than win with a black one, but if they do, let them fade into obscurity, I don't care. Why was everyone mad that Auburn didn't hire a black coach, but didn't seem to care about all of the other vacancies that were filled? I am not black, but I would be offended if I was interviewed bacause they had to interview someone of my race and not because they were interested in hiring me. I do not believe that a person's race should ever be considered with any intent but to honor their heritage, but the counter attacks by people demanding legislation or rules trying to force the hiring of any skin color over another is getting irritating. Why don't we just designated which schools have to hire which race of people; these must hire Irish, these must interview Asian, some others must hire blacks. Make it equal for ALL races or shut up and let the schools hire who they think is the best candidate.
OK there's my rant.

Don't leave out the women. Why don't we have any women HCs in football?

of course this is all from the BLACK announcers...
the same ones that say that race should never be an issue.

What they mean is that RACE should not be an issue, unless it favors them.

Well said, and spot on.

how many blk coaches at the beginning of the yr and how many got fired? they didnt get fired for winning 10 games.

first...too much money involved theses days. who gives a damn what color a coach is.

second...most (not all) black coaches are like black politicians. they surround themselves with other black coaches/politicians. not because they are the best for the job, but for other reasons.

you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with (regardless of color)

Steve Spurrier for one. But Arnsparger recommended Archer, then went to Florida and hired Spurrier.

Talk about throwing LSU under the bus

There's not enough emphasis on race when it comes to race and college football coaches. It's pathetic how few black college football coaches there are. Black candidates face a vicious circle. Schools want to hire proven winners, but it has been difficult for black coaches to obtain any kind of record because they've not been hired. This is definitely a product of racism.

bullshite!

Make your statements somewhere else. LSU needs to hire the best available. Regrdless of race.

No hood here, but these are inflamatory statements. On an LSU website, on a coaching changes thread. Doesn't sound like you are open to discussion.

If you read my earlier posts in THIS THREAD you will see a reasoned response. Apparently that was not good enough for so I tried something diferent. Apparently this was not satisfactory either.

there is not refuting my statements. Racism has made it difficult for black coaches to break into the ranks of D1 college coaches, and is the explanation for the current low number of head D1 coaches. I don't give a shite if you believe this or not.

Meh, AD's and college Presidents care about 1 thing: winning. You know why? Because that a) keeps your job (if you're the AD), and b) makes you money. There may be a tiny bit amount of schools that care about race (perhaps Auburn?), but I'd say that's only around 4 schools at most out of the 119. The rest care about finding the best guy. It's too important to find a great coach rather than look at a guy's race.

very understandable. Just pointing out that it's hard to reach the status of "great coach" when you've not had the opportunity to coach.

No, you're stating that it is definitely a result of racism that there are less african american head coaches than you think there should be. You go on to say it is impossible to refute this statement.

At what level of black coach participation are we no longer racist?

I say bullshite.

If you cry racism, give a concrete example. I don't HAVE to refute you. You made a charge, proove it.

somewhere north of 5. It's laughable that you believe that racism plays no role in the current status of black coaches at the D1 level.

Warde Manuel

Look. I am only partially tryng to be a horses arse. The point I am trying to make is, there are oportunities for young african americans in this country. Case in point. Warde Manuel and Turner Gill. Warde is 40 years old (approx.). He and I grew up together in N.O. We played NORD ball together and went to the same highschool. I would see his mom and dad in church on Sundays. He worked very hard on the football field and in the classroom. Graduated Michigan. Is now AD at Buffallo and has hired Gill. He has encouraged Gill to pursue HC oportunities. When Gill leaves he will make another C hire. He may hire an African AMerican, he may not. I would hope Warde moves to an AD position at a larger school.

IF YOU WORK HARD, you can succeed. If you find an easier path to success, for whatever reason, your chances of success are lessened because you will not be "battle hardened" as the hard worker. Persistence, luck, talent all play a roll.

Crying racism, is just a little to easy. Peace.
